Ok, I'll go first. The small "heart" on some Icelandic coins are actually the mintmark signifying that they were minted in Copenhagen!
  • 100 aurar = 1 krona
    (singular of aurar = eyrir)
    (plural of krona = kronur)

Kingdom till 1944, became a Republic while under German occupation. Monetary reform in 1980/81.

I have a near complete type set, non-Gold/Medallic Issues (at least up to 2000).
Missing the Eyrir from 1926-39, the 1966 2Kr thick planchett, the 1986 50 Aurar, the 1984 10Kr with the security edge (error), the 100Kr Lumpfish, the 1986 500Kr (100th Anniv. of Icelandic Banknotes - 2 varieties) and the 1994 3-coin set (50th Anniv. of the Republic). image

  • I lived there for three years, beautiful country, especially from the nature perspective. I witnessed my first volcanic eruption there in the early 80's. The climate is more moderate than many of us
would think. Whaling was still an industry when I was there, though I do not know if that is true anymore. Much of the country used natural steam for heating from the various hot spots in the
country. Wool, Lamb, Aluminum, and Fish were some of Iceland's major exports. Aluminum was manufactured, but not mined in country, raw bauxite was imported and processed, Iceland has
an abundace of cheap hyrdo electric power (at least they did). Imported products were very expensive (100%) importation tax, and imigration into the country was very difficult.

In the early 80's Iceland went through monetary reform and essentialy dropped two zeros off their currency, inflation was the cause; 100 old Kronur = 1 new Krona. I have nearly a complete type
set from Kingdom to present, but I am stll missing a few.

Iceland has the oldest Parliment established in 930.
