Need Info on This Coin please

i have a 1773 mexican 1/2 reales in good condition i need to know the value of such a coin and the mintages also

  • In that condition, the Krause guide would list it around $5. Still, even in that condition these often go for double or triple that on
    ebay. Don't have any mintage figures though.
  • My old 1st edition ('93) lists KM-69 at $3 in VG. No mintage number records until after independence. There's a variety depending on if the FM and mintmark are oriented different than the rest of the legend's letters that catalogs at the same price.

    Not bad for a buck and a half.

    When I was a young collector, my first coin from the 1700's happened to be a 1773 Mexico City half real. It was given to me by Dr. John Britton, who was a friend of my family and one of my first numismatic mentors. One of Dr. Britton's elderly patients had found it in her yard there in Fernandina, Florida, and gave it to him.

    (In a tragic postscript that made national news, Dr. Britton was murdered in 1994 by anti-abortion extremist Paul Hill.)
