100 lire - variety

Hi!
If you look on date you see that one 8 is wide and one 8 is thin.
Is this variety, error or something else? There in nothing in Krause.

One is a 68 and the other a 78,, I'm sure the dies were changed sometime during that period

If the Rome mint was anything like the mints here in the US, they were probably punching the dates into the dies and the punches may have varied over the years.

I agree. For it to be a notable variety you would have to have coins of the same date with different style numerals or lettering.
BTW, my 1968 and 1978 dates are identical to yours.
