The mint is selling used empty mint bags...Stupid idea

Looks like a very stupid idea. I guess it won't be long before scumbag ebay sellers are filling these bags with circulated coins, re-sewing them and selling them as uncirculated US mint original bags.image

  • Sure, let's blame the Mint for somebody elses shortcomings.

I guess that it's just a matter of time before GSAguy fills up that $1000 Carson City Gold canvas sack of his with a load of CC gold and pitches it on ebay.

..and yes, he actually has one...I've seen it

You are right afterall the US mint made it very simple to seperate the silver proof sets replace the with clad proof coins and reseal them and sell them as silver proof sets. Boy oh boy... there I go again blaming the mint for someone elses short commings. Give me a break.
  • Several years ago, I had about 10 or 15 Mint and Bank canvas bags. I persuaded my Mom to make me a short-sleeved 'shirt-jack' from them. I'd wear it to coin shows and had many offers from folks to buy it off of my back. In some bourse rooms which were cold, it felt very good. Yes, it was a little stiff and I had to dry-clean it to preserve the printing but it was a unique item.

Of course gsaguy would never do that, but I am sure plenty of other dishonest sellers might try it, if the US mint was to sell thousands of those gold CC bags on their website to the public.

whohah....Did that canvas shirt cause your upper body to tone?image Welcome to the forums.
  • I went to my bank and bought $200 of bank wrapped state quarters for my neighbor (please don't ask why) & they put them in a bag and gave it to me.
So why would you pay $9 for a bank bag when you can get them for free at your bank?

  • Well, it was a little ichy but I didn't 'tone.' I have the usual 'tone' for a middle aged sedentary lifestyle type of person...pear shaped and bulging toward the bottom...

  • That price is a rip just like most of their stuff. I don't buy bulk coins at the bank for neighbors, but I can get the bags pretty cheap once a month. I like that shirt idea - it's kewl, but think I will go buy me a bunch of them and make some curtains. image If anyone wants any for 1/3 mint price, shoot me a PM. No spanking please, just doing a favor.
