As I'm sure you know, anything earlier than 1874 and you get into some big money when you can find them. They are all beautiful coinz in BU, IMHO, but the earlier "high relief" design is extra special.

Agreed. Still looking for a good one of those as well. Finding one and staying solvent may be mutually exclusive.

Yeah that is where I am at, I have an 1847 Crown in AU53 (PCGS), but do I want to go deep for a half crown or not? I got the crown at a very fair price about 8-12 months ago...
I don't think the Dark Mouse owns anything below MS-65!!
.....GOD
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
It was graded MS65 by PCGS. It has a few too many small ticks to go higher, in fact, it's the lustre which really pulls up the eye appeal. It has a very light golden/champagne toning on both sides.
That 1878 is probably more vibrant in real life....that image looks like a scan which really flattens the relief.

I agree with Jester!
Sorry Glenn, I can't be of any help on this subject. Maybe you should wait if you're not sure. It's rare however to be able to obtain better bargains off ebay.

Well, I'm not surprised, it has the look of a gem. I also have an early coin, with attractive toning, but not as scarce a date the 1840 is.

That's one of the more "common" dates.
