An amazing little holed piece of history came in the mail today...

This little gem arrived in the mail today, it's an 18xx Arrows w/ Rays Quarter, 1875 Dime, 1855 w/ Arrows Dime, and 1869 Nickel on a conteporary piece of string from the time period they circulated in. It was purchased by a dealer as part of a collection from a woman in her 80s, she claimed it was given to her by her mother. I was offered it last week at a very reasonable price and couldn't pass it up. I love the history that this piece holds.

Why are there holes... I dont understand why they put holes in them, are they necklaces? Im a currecncy guy anyway.

This one was either a bracelet or the holes were put into the coins and then placed on a string attached to their belt and placed into their pocket to keep them secure.

Pretty safe bet that the 18XX arrows and rays quarter is a 1853.

If ther is a sun burst behing the eagle then it is 1853. Thats the only year that has the rays behing the eagle. 1853 is a one year type coin.

a great original piece with original string and patina as shown by many years of being carried around in someones pocket as a again a rememberance of individual people in this persons life who carried this around with each coin the birthdate of the person being remembered
