How do you protect PCGS holders from scratches?

How can I protect my plastic holder from scratches? I own a shrink-wrapper and could easily shrink-wrap the holders, but does that trap or introduce outgases? I have a feeling that your infinite wisdom will advise me to simply not scratch them in the first place!!! thanks for answers to all my silly questions!

I'm with dthigpen, I keep 'em in PCGS boxes. The only contact is around the edges and does not affect the viewing surface.....Rick

If you just want protection for one or two that you can carry around, you can always buy a slab caddy from Russ (Click the Ebay link in his signature)

    thiggy...

Serious question here. Do you have one of Russ's handy dandy slab caddies? If so, do you carry one or two around? image

No, I think using a slab caddy of any sort is silly. I have pockets to carry slabs in at shows.

I slip them into baseball card sleves. Or as some others have commented--slab condoms. image

  • Get yerself a slab caddy from Russ. It will hold two. Of course it's mostly used to transport slabs. image

    Jonesy,

Do you personally attest to robustness of Russ's slab caddy? Like thiggy I carry my slabs in my pocket. Not to talk smack on Russ's invention, but I must admit, they remind my of fanny packs in a way... and fanny packs are for geeks, unless your 70 years old and wear blueblockers. (Please don't be offended if you have/use/own/ or ever borrowed a fanny pack and wore it the local carnival/shopping mall/convention/while rollerskating/ coin, car, boat, gun show of any sort.) image

Hat's off to Russ's slab caddies!

in regards to preventing scratches on your holdered coins' holders, the simplest solution is to not handle them. for that reason, i think the different boxes such as the PCGS or Whitman boxes suggested in the thread are a bad idea; you'll be putting the cases at scratch risk every time you put them in/out of the box. another idea might be Eagle binders. they come in assorted sizes with pages that hold 9 coins each and allow for easy viewing of both sidesby looking at the opage as if it's a book or opening the rings and pulling out the individual pages for a closer look. in either case, the holder stays in place and minimizes the risk of scratches. they also look nice and store on a shelf or Bank Box easily. i think the address is eaglecoin or something like that.

Have to diagreewith keets on the Eagle products......I have bought many Eagle products....in this case, the plastic pages are fine for small denomiation coin, however if you load up one of there pages with heavy coins (ie: dollar coins), the holes that connect to the binder tend to break after 3 or 4 thumb throughs....my own experience.....Rick

I'm hoping to give Solid Craft a nice order, after the holidays are over. I definitely like the look of those holders image

I use baseball card sleeve holders. They're archival and fit PCGS/NGC slabs perfectly. I use the type that does not have any adhesive to close the holder. I fold the loose edge over and then place the slab into either a PCGS/NGS plastic box or Intercept Shield container, which then goes into an Intercept shield box. It's all overkill but the sleeve holders will keep slabs from further scratches and degradation image Any baseball card shop should have them. Mine are #3023 Soft Sleeves by Ultimate Collection, for cards size 2 1/2 x 4 3/4.

Baseball Card sleeve and a NGC box to transport them in. Works great for all slabs.
