1000 count bag Peace Medal nickel~open it? or never?

New modern collector here, so laugh silently! As the proud new owner of a 1000-count bag of Peace Medal nickels, would you veterans gamble on opening it in hopes of finding errors or other goodies or not?
I just want to search something! In the past two months I've searched three thousand wheaties twice and all the pocket change in the house. It's tempting! What would you do? Thanks for your advice. And thanks for all other topics in this forum. Most helpful. MOST helpful! Thanks. david

Cross your fingers and open it and hope for the best. Then find out they are almost all the same. Then look for creative ways to get rid of them, image

Crack it and hope you can find a 67 amid the junk ... don't jostle it, though ... these coins have been saved, big time, and I don't envision a huge premium, anytime soon, on sealed bags ...

Usually the errors are found after opening many many bags. I'm not sure if there will be a premium for unopened bags of this type. So have fun, grab a drink, and take rest breaks for the eyes every half hour!

Open it, use one to flip. Head, put it back; tail leave it open.image

You must search! Now you just need to know what for but it is kind of a new issue so you're probably on your own. Double dies, die clash, filled dies, cracked dies, incomplete planchets, all kinds of things.
  • Thanks guys! I was hoping you'd say that! Open her I shall, and enjoy every hour of the search!

Good Luck and please let us know the results. I opened mine to find nothing but MS63 at the best, so you'll need the luck! I think my nickels are worth about four-cents each.

  • I'd crack that puppy!

So much good stuff to look for. Might even find an MS68. Or a mistruck coin.

    Good luck!

Don't open it!! It will be worth much more in a few years unopened. I searched through 8000 Peaces from 8 bags.....my results....1 MS67 D, 8-10 66's(D) and the best P was one 66. 99% of the coins were junk. Save it. That's my experience. Hope that helps. Not the answer you wanted to hear I'm sure.
