randomly found penny

Hello,
I was digging in my pocket to get some change for my friend and stumbled apon an old wheat penny. It is dated 1909 and has no other letters indicating where it was mented. One side has Abe with the date, Liberty to the left of Abe, (date on right) and "In God We Trust" above the head. The reverse side is not exactly symetrical to the other. I guess another way to say it is when you flip it over you have to turn it slightly in order to center the coin. There is Pluribus Unum at the top, One Cent-middle, Wheat grain on either side and United States of America below "one cent". I was wondering if someone could tell me if the coin is rare, what kind it is, or any information other than what I can figure-that it is a penny-
Thanks for the help,
Taylor

Not rare, not worth much. Cool pocket change find, though.

First off its a wheat penny which you knew. Secondly it has a rotated die, which is considered a mint error if it is large enough. Normally only when it exceeds 180 degrees. Thirdly check for VDB below the wheat on the reverse (back). If it is there, then its a nice find for pocket change. About a $4 coin depending on condition. If its not there its about a $2 at the lowest.

Hows the conidition? Does it look worn and scratched, or is it pretty nice and red? It wont make you rich if its a nice coin, but can be upwards to about $20 + coin if its nice condition.

    Overall, nice pocket find!
  • Thanks for the info. Yeah it was really cool finding it. I was in the Library studying for finals when a friend needed change for copies. It totally caught my eye. Maybe not worth much money but def. gonna hold on to it. penny saved, penny earned-even if it is almost 100 years old.
    Thanks,
    Taylor
  • No. I dont see those letters. its off centered only about 10 degrees or so. The condition is not so good. Def. has some character which I kinda like. It almost looks like someone bit down on the edge. The coin is pretty brown. Makes you wonder what all he has experienced.

Maybe a Doctor handed it to a notorious gunfighter to help him fight through the pain as he was having a bullet removed.
