  • My wife wouldn't kill me. She thinks I'm insane at some of the prices I pay for a nickel -- and there's some sort of taboo about killing crazy people. imageimageimage

But this is a beaut. Clearly worth it.

    Congratulations.

aren't we all insane? I'd hate to be told that I'm the only one... well, me and my shadow friend! image

Again, I really like that coin... even with the 104,000 times markup!

I think you'll have to define "insane". Many people, particularly here in Southern California, spend over an hour a day in little metal boxes with highly combustible fuel driving over 88 feet per second on highways (and then suddenly 0 ft/sec). That might fit some people's definition of insaneimage

To your shadow friend's real point, my wife wouldn't understand if I spent $5K+ on a coin either. Your shadow friend (and you) are not alone. Recently when PCGS returned my raw 1913-s type II buffalo nickel in a PCGS MS65 holder, she didn't understand why I didn't sell it immediately. Who needs a $3,000 nickel? Saying it was the only 1913-s Type II buffalo nickel I had did not seem compelling/sane to her image

We all have our own idiosyncracies. Enjoy them!

uhm... trust me... if I had the capital to play with... that coin and many like it would be mine. Long-term, I think RGL is sitting on a gold mine... image

When a told my wife that I want to by my 1898 Proof set and told her the price, she looked
looked at me like I was insane. I still hear about it to this day. I have not discused price with
her on any other coins and now all is good!

The long run is the only way to tell if value=$ spent on coins like this. I'm trying to upgrade the quality of the coins as welll as the rankings. The coin is awesome. For now, it is off the market for foreseeable future - locked away in my registry set.

    hey Badger

can you explain the anomaly in the picture just above Jefferson's ear?? i know it's on the holder or something generated by the camera in DigiLand, but what's weird is that it's identical to what used to show up regularly in pictures posted with auctions by pepperdoodles. is there any connection between the two??

I got the coin off TT. The pics are fresh and taken using a Canon G3 with macro lense. Whtie balance compensated on auto. I'll take a look at the coin and the digital image.

  • Wifes understand I think: I just got back into proof sets and trying to complete the early ones for my grandkids. Luckily. paying top buck for a proof PCGS penny didn't phase her as much as buying an old fishing lure that cost more than her wedding ring. I guess that means I now can pay more for proof coins without any spousal toodooo...Hooray. There is something to be said for having two crazy hobbies or, just being crazy..
