May all COPIES rot in hell....not coins....but......

Just perusing ebay and never had heard of these. This box is RARE RARE RARE and the gun that came in it is too.

A copy reduces the value of the original if only by the one crummy geek who will be satisfied to own one of the lousy things.

Stinking copy of Long Tom cap gun box.

Someone is trying to sell a reproduction BOX for $94.00 imageimage Why would they think it was so valuable? To cheat someone?

    I just don't understand.

Absolutely correct. The gun is a $500-1500 item depending on condition. YESTERDAY, I would have thought I had made a great find to see one IN THE BOX.

Not knowing (until tonight) that the boxes are being repro-ed.

BTW.....ALL Lionel trains are available as EXACT repros as are multi-thousand dollar tin robots. On the robots, they ARE marked .....on the battery box lid.........which can be traded in minutes with a lid from a common toy.

What's next? Pan Pac frames? Proof set envelopes for those wanting SEALED sets? Bicentennial boxes?
Once a .....COPY.... is accepted into a hobby, the hobby deteriorates.

Edited to add: It ..has...been customary in antique toys to DOUBLE the price of the toy with the box alone.

You can already buy mint state proof set envelopes to replace your damaged ones for about a buck a piece on ebay image
  • YES coins ... I have always been outraged at copies of U.S. coins, even if stamped "COPY" ... to me they are counterfeits, they are stealing designs that should be the copyrighted property of the U.S. government, and it should be a felony. Fake 1933 proof double eagles, Gallery mint chain cents, etc etc etc .... FELONS !!!!

The nice thing about coins is it's much, much harder to fool an expert with a counterfeit item than with toy boxes, sports cards, etc.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

This happens with EVERYTHING !! Take classic cars for example. Some people just pry on the other people that just plain do not know what they are looking at or what to look for. About two months ago a 64 Fairlane was being watched that was touted as a True Thunderbolt car.(Price somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000 if the real thing) The car got up over $100,000 from spirited bidding between 3 bidders. The darn thing was a fake or clone car. I wanted badly to Email the bidders but figured if they wanted to throw their money away it was cool by me. Anyway the car did not make the sellers reserve so I presume those bidders got off the hook. Still the deceit by the seller made me want to PUKE.
