what accounts for the shadowed area to the right top of the Monticello, what looks like frost in the field??

I should have said - this is in a Pr66Dam holder.
The area above the Monticello is a reflection. There is no cameo in the field. And, the area between the hair and the collar is lighly frosted.
The photo does show the rub on Jeff's cheek more than in hand.
I guess my photo techniques need assistance.

Personally, I think your imaging is excellent, and that coin is a:
Russ, NCNE
The Ludlow Brilliant Collection (1938-64)
It is a suberb coin, Dcam in an era where hardly any proof coins were.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
I looked at the obverse again and it does look like it is cross hatched on the surface of the coin. The reverse does not have the same appearance.
I don't have an explanation

hey Badger
you didn't need to say that, i figured it out!!!! TDN seems to have seen the same thing i did with regard to the frost. i'd assume it's from friction and cost the coin 1-2 grade points. BUMMER!!!
