2001 Collectors Club Coins Misidentified by PCGS

i received a collectors club promo MS69 2001 Silver Eagle, however it was mistakenly labelled 2004 - I called PCGS about this and they confirmed that "about 100" were misidentified. anybody else who got this promo should examine what they received. i finally listed mine as eBay item no. 3946726341.

Listing of items for sale should be on the buy sell trade forum and not here.

I'll pay face value for it.

  • whoops - didn't know about the buy/sell board - i didn't intend to bring spam to discussion boards, and apparently cannot remove this posting.

The board always forgives if you do penance with pictures of great coins you own that aren't for sale. image
  • then i commit to photographing and posting my 1911 $5 gold piece, made distinctive by being in the original bank presentation case, but getting around to photographing always takes me a while, so your forgiveness and patience is appriciated!

why would a 1911 $5 Indian be in an "original bank presentation case"?? i always assumed they'd be in paper rolls or cloth bags.

  • don't really know - i always assumed it was promoted the same way new issues are sometimes promoted today. perhaps a $5 dollar coin was presented as a gift like you might see special a stamp series in the post office. in any event, the case is blue with a funky red pattern, a green (i think) velvet inside. it is otherwise cardboard, not very sturdy. nobody i ever encountered had seen one before.
