Silver Proof Jeffersons

How does one tell the difference between a clad proof jefferson and a silver proof jefferson outside of a proof set?

    There isn't one.
  • Well in the "silver" proof set, the Jefferson is 25% nickel and the remainder is copper (whereas the dime, quarter, and half are 90% silver). I don't know what difference, if any, there is between the proof "clad" Jeffersons and the "silver" Jeffersons.

The 1942P Type 2 is the only silver proof Jefferson nickel that exists...i believe.

I'm just trying to figure out why someone would charge a premium for nickels pulled out of silver proof sets over nickels from regular proof sets of the same year.
  • The only reason I can think of to ask a higher price, is that they're
considering their basis in these coins are higher because of the silver
set's inherently higher price from the mint.

There is no good reason to pay more! image

ummm... I'll take a guess at it and say... stupidity... or someone flat out trying to sell a normal proof, as a silver coin... to make more money.

1942-P Type 2 Proof Jefferson is the only regular issue part silver proof nickel.

    End of my rant.
