Do you think getting him will help the price of this one of a kind original oil painting?:

I think he's got Esteban Loaiza & Javier Vazquez written all over him. The Yankees will be a disaster this season. When all is said and done, it'll wind up being the worst starting rotation they have had in years.
  • Sure, that is why he was 18-8 last year with a 3.00 ERA. That is why the Red Sox coveted him too. Talk about taking a chance...David Wells a 42 old overweight guy with a bad back. SMART.

That is an unbelievable piece!! Is that yours? Who is the painter? It looks more detailed than Fiorentino's work - maybe one of the Starks?
I don't understand your question - do you mean getting Pavano to sign the piece?

In 2000 Shop at Home had a series of lithographs that they were selling with a painting of Mark McGwire which were done in 1987 by artist Phil Hanks. There were originally 1,000 of them. Anyway when McGwire broke Maris's HR record, SAH and Goldin Sports took 70 of the original lithogtraphs and put a St Louis Cardinal logo over it and made a new series of 70. Rather than paying $2,000, which Shop at Home was charging at the time, I found Phil Hank's website and I saw he was doing a new series of 70 original oil paintings, each representing one of Mark Mcgwires' Home Run games, which was less money. I reserved #70 and Phil painted EXACTLY what I requested. I paid extra for a large 24" X 36" canvas board painting. Since I am a big Yankee fan I had him paint Roger Maris and Babe Ruth in the lower left and right hand corners. Phil also attached the original folded Mark McGwire signed thank you letter which buyers received in 1987 when they purchased the original litho. Phil Hanks's specialty is baseball paintings but he can paint anything. Phil has done the book cover of Babe Herman's autogbiography, and also did the cover of the LA Dodger's Year Book. He did a painting of Orel Hershiser which Orel purchased for himself from Phil. Phil also has several blank canvasses that are ready to go for new paintings. He has a blank signed Micky Mantle canvas but that was a little more than I wanted to spend. Go to Phil Hank's website at
http://www.philhanksart.com/ and you will see more. The pictures don't do justice since the oil painting is covered by glass and there was quite a bit reflection from the camera flash.

The only downside to all of this was 5 months after I received the painting, Barry Bonds broke McGwire's record so I am sure the value want down. Oh, well. Now that Pavano is going to be a Yankee I was just thinking there is another twist to this piece for Yankee collectors.

Thanx for the link - really nice work - and autographed! He has a nice special on a Mays item. If you look at what some are paying for a low pop common, this stuff is an absolute bargain! As it goes for investment - that would be tough to determine. Will it go up based on anything going on with the Yanks - my gut? Not sure but probably not. But who knows? Your pic is a one of a kind gem - with the Mac auto - it is definitely enhanced!
    Thanx for sharing!

While we are on the topic of artists - Ron Stark does some of the best portraits I have ever seen. I would liken his work to Norman Rockwell. His work is very detailed.

I have no idea what he charges but it will probably be in the many thousands.
