Not sure how I feel about this - Wells was one of the few Yankee players of recent years I actually liked however. Proves that Boston is the place to be right now, if you are looking to end your career with a ring or two.

  • Rumor has it Pavano is going to sign with the Yankees. Pavano grew up a Red Sox fan in New Britain, CT. He is also a big Schilling fan. If he signs with the Yankees it only goes to prove that money talks. If I grew up a Red Sox fan I would take $8 Miillion a year vs. $12 Million a year to sign with my favorite boyhood team.

I really don't care for Pavano to be a Yankee, but I know he is a good pitcher. He grew up a Red Sox fan, so he should go there. The few extra millions he will get with the Yanks should not deter his decision. He could be just toying with the Yankees in order for Boston to give a few more bucks before finally signing. Not a bad strategy on Pavano's part.

I really wanted Wells back again, but oh well. I wish Cone could come back from retirement, but his arthritic hip needs to be repaired from stem cell research first.

  • You guys hit the nail on the head.

These agents are playing Cashman and Epstein like a fiddle.
    And the GM's know it.

It's all about getting the best deal possible.
Might as well get the two teams that hate each other involved to make the bidding more interesting.

I agree with you guys that Pavano grew up a Sox fan, said he wants to play in Boston, and also said he didn't want to play in NY. So, for a few million dollars more, he might sign in NY. What does that make him? It makes him just like 3/4 of the Yankee payroll - i.e. just in it for the money. Too bad if its true, I really wanted him in Boston to pitch under Schilling's wing.

I like the signing. It looks like Bill James influence is alive and well. Wells has great control and has made over 30 starts 3 years in a row. The contract is heavy with incentives so it is not that risky.

"For A Few Dollars More" -- another one of my Clint Eastwood favorites. I think you can see it on TBS tonight. Same premise. Keep uping the payoff and you never know what will happen.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

I'm sad to see Boomer leave the Padresimage

He did a great job for them this past season, and I think he still has a couple of good years leftimage You don't see too many pitchers these days with the kind of stamina to go out there every day and pitch the innings like he doesimage

``It's been a real difficult decision for him. ... It's about Carl being happy where he's living and where he's playing.''

Yes, agent Shapiro, we Boston and NY fans could see right through you. You wanted Pavano to sign with NY all along because you will get a bigger cut. Do not insult our intelligence by saying Pavano wants to pitch somewhere comfortable. There is no place like home, but for you sir, its the Benjamins!!

what kind of stamina did he have vs. the Marlins in the WS ??? Thanks David ! You couldn't answer the bell! Let the Red Sox have him, he is no big deal, especially come October when the fat man is worn down and can't go anymore.
