Try a guess

I got this whatever in a deal. It looks like a bunch of it is missing, but I was fooling around trying to ID it by what is left. I struck out. Anyone have any idea?

It's French I'd say - but a bit before any period I collect. If no one else identifies it beforehand - I'll look it up this weekend.

I took a look see through my Krause books, it looked French so I tried there.
Anyway I had no luck seeing anything like it, via current, on back to the 1600's books.
So maybe it is a 1400's or 1500's French coin. Heck being a little crude around the edges, if it wasn't too much corrosion, it may even be older.
    Sorry

wow-- interesting hammered copper coin. I've never seen the likes of it before, but my bet is that it's 1500's. To me it has an italian kind of feel, though those fleur de lis hint at french. Still, it looks like no french coin-- 1400's, 1500's, 1600's-- that i've ever seen before. So my first guess is Italian, my next best guess is 1500's netherlands.
