Proof Seated Half question........

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,023 ✭✭✭✭✭
Does anyone have any experience with sending old(1800's) toned Proofs to NCS. I have a couple of Proof Seated halves with unattractive toning but very mirrored fields that show through the toning. They both show hairlines and probably will grade no better than PR63. I'd really prefer to see the mirrors!! Anyone have any experiences they'd like to share? Thanks, C.

I had a barber 25c that I sent to NGC. It came back as a 64 cam, with a sticker saying it would be a good candidate for conservation. It had a darker area of toning along the rim where it was exposed to air from under the slide in an album, but otherwise was white. I figured what the heck and sent it to NCS. It came back as a 65 cam. That is the only experience I have had with NCS.

Unattractive toning to you might be attractive to someone else. Post some pics. Also there is a risk that the hairlines might be more severe than thought under that toning and your coins will grade much lower. NCS will do an evaluation first before they do any work. If they feel conservation will damage the coin then thye will not perform any work.

impossible to say without seeing the coins in person sight seen

but lets assume the toning is not deep within the mirrors and can be dipped and the mirrors will be deep and clean and clear with no haze or sports and also there are no hairlines under the toning and the toning is really super unattractive then ncs might be MIGHT BE A good shot but then there are no guarantees

and sometimes it is worse and fewer times it is better
