PSA 9 o/c or PSA 8?

If you have a card that's mint, but the centering is 70/30, would you rather have the 9 o/c or request no qualifiers and shoot for the straight 8?

I haven't measured this one yet, but, for getting this far, here's a treat:

Go for the PSA 8, no qualifiers.

Definitely need the measurements on that one. image
  • I always put "no qualifiers" on every submission.
  • I say go with the no qualifiers. the centering is even borderline for an 8.

    Kosmo - that's my point; if it's borderline for an 8, I think I'd rather have a 9 o/c than a straight 7.

  • That painting/litho/whatever was made in 1944.
That would make your model over 80 years old.
    She may be flattered.
But the line of competitors will be short.

Fuzz - the line will be twice as long as you were thinking - a walker takes up as much room as another person would. image

Mark.........I to always request NQ's on my submissions , as I hate to have a qualierfier listed in my set Registry for the point reductions hit it takes ! But IMO , IF THE CORNERS ARE RAZOR Sharp on that card , I think you have a good shot at a straight 8 ! ...........Robby

  • It looks to me like the card should make an 8 with no qualifiers. Have you noticed that the card is slightly "diamond cut" -- it is centered a little better on the lower half, than the upper half. Maybe this will be JUST enough to at least get it the 8.
  • I didn't realize you could request no qualifiers. I have four PSA 8OCs in my 1953 registry set.

    How do you do that?

Novocent - if you request no qualifiers, then the centering will bring the grade down appropriately. In other words, if your card is, say, 85/15 but nr mint/mint in every other way, your card would grade no better than a 5 with no qualifiers, rather than an 8 o/c.
