Horrible inconsistency in PSA's grading!!

image
Currently on eBay (item #5145418624) is a hand-cut Bazooka panel, PSA-graded as NM-MT 8. If you look at the scan, the ENTIRE right side of dashed lines is MISSING! PSA's OWN STANDARDS for hand-cut cards states: "In order for PSA to actually assign a grade to any of the cards that possess visible/defined borders on all four sides, evidence of that border must be present. If the cut exceeds the visible border for the card in question, PSA will encapsulate the card as "Authentic" only." This clearly says ALL FOUR SIDES. And i've seen OTHER cards that have only about HALF the dashed lines on ONE SIDE missing, and it just got the "Authentic" rating. I have also personally sent in a card for crossover, graded by SGC (who graded Bazooka cards long before PSA started doing them) as an 8.5 (92), and asked only for it to cross over to an "8", and they sent it back with their vague "M/G", with NO explanation as to why it didn't cross over--and it DOES HAVE ALL the dashed lines!!! As a collector, this is beyond frustrating, as now, if i want an explanation as to WHY it didn't cross over, i must send the card in AGAIN, for "Review", pay MORE money, pay for shipping again, and have someone scribble a one or two word "explanation" as to WHY it didn't cross over--like they should have done in the FIRST place! Meanwhile, this card on eBay which does not even meet PSA's OWN STANDARDS gets a premium grade! I just don't get it. image

I have that Bazooka panel in my watch list because I am a big Colavito collector. I understand what you are saying, and now that I look closer, I agree with you to a certain extent. I think the fact that the right border has about 80% of the "cut along line" text showing if perhaps why they were willing to grade it with a number rather than authentic because theoretically, the border on that side is clearly defined, which their guidelines state. That said, I would not be hesitant to purchase that panel, as I think it is in very nice shape, all considering... as far as lacking print smudges and other print defects, as well as scuffing.

Oh, and... welcome to the boards.

Card in question...everyone can make up their own mind...a healthy critical eye and discussion is good for the board...I would hate to see the day when everyone was agreeing. image

I'm not pleased because I had an otherwise NM-MT '69 Topps Stamp downgraded to PSA 5 because I had just barely cut into one of the dotted lines. By just a hair's breadth on one side, kinda like the bottom edge of that panel. Oh well, there are worse things to worry about than a blown grade here and there. I'm hoping it's just 1 out of 500 or something like that.
