OT: RIP Dimebag

Have not seen a posting on this yet, but Texas lost one of its best guitarists last night. Another victim of sensless violence. Pantera's music will live forever though. RIP Dimebag...

Ironically it happened on the 24th anniversary of another great musicians murder. John Lennon

I got to see Pantera once when they had a show in Jacksonville.. then I saw Joe Satriani the following night..

Vulgar Display of Power, or Cowboys from Hell were my favorite albums of theirs..

edit - here is a link to a thread in the Open Forum about the shooting ..

  • Last time I saw them was in Dallas with White Zombie, it was one of the last concerts for both bands. I met both Dimebag and Vinny at the Album Premiere party for Pantera's "The Great Southern Trendkil.l"

  • I was shocked when i heard this on the radio at work today.
I was a hardcore Pantera fan back in my high school days. I loved Far Beyond Driven.
Hell of a guitar player and from what i heard a really nice guy.

I was shocked to hear about this on the morning news. I saw a Pantera concert several years ago, these guys were intense live. I haven't followed them in recent years, but I didn't realize they were still touring. RIP Dimebag Darrell.

Edit - didn't realize he was touring with Damageplan, not Pantera.

  • last night, after hearing about it, i was on the Damageplan messageboards seeing if anyone knew anything concrete. one guy, who was at the show, said a guy came on stage and started screaming at Dime "do you realize you broke up Pantera? what about Phil? he needs his heroin money!!" then shot him several times. what a terrible tragedy, Pantera was one of my favorite bands. this is my generation's version of the John Lennon shooting, strange it happened 24 years later to the day
