Sorry, I don't know. In fact, I didn't know such a high denomination existed. What's the metal content?

Are these the aluminum ones with the horse, about the size of a silver dollar?

There is even a 500 Million Mark denomination. Gilded bronze.

  • I bought one for about $30 including shipping from Poland. I gave it to my brother so he could start saving for his retirement.

    Andy:

Would this be one of the Wesphalia issues that has the Horse and has Mr. Stein on the obverse? Mostlikey... I really like these and if I recall correctly, there are two varieties. One that has 50 Million Mark on two lines and another that has three lines. I am trying to remember which is the tougher variety and I think it is the two lined. As for value, it depends on the variety and the quality. $30 for the common one is about right and the tougher variety is probably in the $50-60 range. Notgeld is becoming more popular... even the coins.

This is one of my favorite series.

According to Max Frenzel's Die Notmunzen 1916-1924 there are 4 basic varieties of the 50 million mark:
Aluminum 44 mm at 20 DM
Aluminum 38 mm at 30 DM
    Gilt Tombac at 45 DM
    Gilt copper at 235 DM

There are also patterns as well worth a lot more.

Prices are in unc and I find these are reasonably representative if you consider them as $ instead of DM.

The denomination in 2 lines vs 3 line variety is with the 5 million mark. The 3 line variety and the non-gilt 2 line tokens are worth quite a bit more than the gilt 2 line variety.

I'm still having trouble finding nice varieties of a few of these myself: 5 Mk Tombac, 10 Mk bronze, 1/4 Million in AL, and 2 Million in AL. Anyone have one of these for sale?

The most fun is the Billion, of course:

nice example of the One Billion Mark... this coin has significant interest and is very cool.

  • Which variety do you have, gilt bronze with the denomination in two lines or in three?

Never mind I had the wrong denomination. I still need the 1923 5 million mark gilt with the three line inscription, and 5 Mark tombac, in order to have a complete set.

There are also two varieties of the billion mark piece. I have both of them. (different diameters)
  • How many pieces are in a full set?
I have a long way to go.

As I count them, there are 24 varities and subvarieties in the set. There's also what look like patterns and at least one "shooting medal" as well with the horse design.
