MODERN LINCOLN CENTS

Can anyone comment on what modern lincoln cents might be worth looking at...it looks like some of the PCGS Graded Lincoln cents seem to be good values, but as always I come here for input.

Hi! I've collected Lincoln Memorials in high grade for 2+ years. I wouldn't buy anything lower than ms66 in a pcgs holder with the exception of a few dates (61,62-d,63-d,73-s). Most dates can be found in ms65 raw and cheap (like less than a $1 even). Many dates are very common in ms66 too. (Of course I'm telling you this while I have about a dozen pcgs ms65's for sale on ebay at the moment!). When you get to ms67 some dates are legitimately rare and will stand the test of time. Some might end up being much harder than most late date wheats in ms67, and right now are a fraction of the prices of some late date wheats. With LOTS OF persistance these coins can be found raw by buying original rolls, but it may be easier and less frustrating to buy them already in pcgs holders. PCGS hasn't been too consistent though, if you buy an ms66 or ms67 in a recent #216.. #217... holder it will be a nice coin, but many of the ms67's graded a year or more ago would not be ms67's today. That's what makes (properly graded) ms67's look like such a good value... pops are still tiny, and out of that pop some of the coins aren't even really ms67!

Anyway, feel free to post or pm (private message) me if you have any more questions. If while logged in, you click on profile, there should be a choice to enable pm's. (right now you have it turned off).
  • Ill be specific..

I am looking at a few Modern Lincolns and wonder what their value might really be...

    1991-D PCGS MS67 RD
    1980-P PCGS MS67 RD
    2001-S PCGS PR69DCAM
    1998-P PCGS MS67 RD
    1993-P PCGS MS67 RD

Your thoughts as to their value?

1980 is a good one... I'd say $75-$100. The others are very common and you could probably pick them up for about the cost of slabbing $12-$15. Those are ones you could likely find yourself if you look through some mint sets, or buy a roll or two. (I have lots of extra's of those raw that I would sell cheap or give away).
  • So does PCGGS have their value higher because of the current population of coins graded at that level....when I look at the prices of the coins and then look at PCGS, they look like steals....the 1980 is actually an MS66 RD , not MS67...typo on my part. So what then do the PCGS prices suggest?

There are a few dealers who bring these high grade Memorials to shows and try to sell them to the ignorant at levels near the pcgs price guide. DLRC for example has an ms67 76-p and 79-p for around $250-$350 I think. They can be had for $50-$100 on ebay (someone just bought an ms67 79-p for like $25 the other day!). Then on the other hand, some dates like much of the 1960's still have miniscule pops in ms67 and would sell for multiples of the pcgs price guide price. The price guide is really useless, or even a scam to help dealers like DLRC.

    An ms66 1980 isn't rare, maybe $15-$20.
