Help, Barber Dime Books?

I am just starting to collect a few Barber dimes in high circulated to AU grades. Could someone recommend a good book (or books) on Barber dimes? Do any of the Barber dime books reference circulated coins?

Thanks,
Charlie

Hi Billy, I have seen that one listed, but the books description only indicates the book to be about uncirculated coins. I don't think I can afford to collect Barber dimes in unc. condition.

I have also seen another book.."The Complete Guide to Certified Barber Coinage by David & John Feigenbaum. Published in 1999" advertised, but its description also sounds like it doesn't cover circulated coins. Could someone tell me if the John Feigenbaum book discusses circulated Barbers?

    Thanks,
    Charlie

    Charlie,

I own the David Lawrence reference book on Barber Dimes, but not his son's (John ) book on the entire series of Barber coins.

The David Lawrence book, copyrighted in 1991, lists grades' values in G-F-XF-MS60-MS63 ( and in some cases MS65). The book shows images in almost all numeric grades from AG2 to AU 55. It also lists rarity values on all dates in the grades G-F-XF-MS60-MS63. Its an excellent reference, especially for beginners in the Barber Dime series.

From what I have heard the John Feigenbaum book does list AU material.

Having completed this set myself in AU 55-58 ( mostly raw coins, except the keys are certified ) I know you'll enjoy assembling this set as much as I did.

Good luck ! (PS: Especially finding the 95-O in AU ).

"the Complete guide to Barber dimes" By David Lawrence (John F) is the most comprehensive book written that I know of on the Barber Dime series in circulated condition. It is intended for collectors of the dimes who collect from all grades AG-MS70. It has scarcity rankings of all grades and descriptions of varieties and strike characteristics. It is a must for the serious or dedicated collector.

  • There was a book on ebay awhile back by David L specifically on barber dimes. It was used and I put a crazy bid of 25.00 and still lost!! These are hard to find. If his website has one available, grab it.

As Tyler and Mike pointed out, Lawrence's book on dimes is the bible and it is usually hard to find. It took me about 6 months of watching Ebay to find mine.
