I know there aren't that many VAM fans on these Boards but I just wanted to share a couple of cool discoveries. I just got the Top50 VAM book for Peace $ and thought I'd give my toned Peace $ collection a looksey. Not expecting to find anything, I actually stumbled on 2 in the book.
A 1925-S VAM3 in MS63 and a 1926 VAM2 in MS65. I also think I have a 28-S VAM3 in MS63 but it is so hard to tell because of the strike.
None-the-less -- I'm hooked. Not that I'm going to become a VAMNut now, but it sure puts an interesting twist to a series I've been collecting for several years now. I had asked NGC a couple of weeks ago if they were going to do a Top50 Registry Set for Peace $ to match the Morgan set and they'll already have it up. Guess I got to get these puppies attributed as well as the 34-D VAM4s I have at the next LB show.
Overall, I highly recommend VAMs. They seem a little daunting at first, but once you've looked through the book several times, they become easier to spot. And if anything, I have a feeling that the VAM market is going to heat up with NGC's registry sets. Before it happens, cherrypicking these coins might not be too hard.

Congrats on the finds.
It's so hard to tell from pics. It doesn't match the 26 I have, so I know its not that one -- but that doesn't mean it isn't a VAM. It might be, just not a Top50 one. Nice coin though! Post some pics when you have it in hand. Heritage's pics sux.

That's my point exactly. I think every Morgan/Peace $ collector should educate themselves as to VAMs. It might be a little esoteric, but it can be fun discovering that you coin is actually a sought after VAM. And with the prices I've seen on Peace $ VAMs on Ebay -- it can be profitable to cherry pick these coins.
Just waiting for it to arrive.
Post some results when it arrives. I'll bet you find 1 or 2, depending on how many Peace $ you have. I also found a 27-D VAM in my raw set.

1922-P VAM 7. Got two of these.
1925-P VAM 1A
1934-D VAM 3. Got two of these, too.
So, how many VAM 4s do you own? Do you have a large stockpile of them? Today, I thought I saw a couple of 34Ds that looked like VAM 4s, but the obverse doubled die did not quite match my VAM 3. According to the list I printed, the obverse on VAM 4 is same as VAM 3.
Can anyone confirm that? Are there other DDOs for that date?
Thanks, Richard.
I have a small accumulation that I got from a roll. Not for sale -- at least not yet.
As for the 34-D VAM4 -- it's not the obverse it's the mintmark that seperates the VAM3 from VAM4. The 4 has a micromark that is clear while the 3 has a filled D mintmark. They are easy to tell apart.
I also have a DDO from the same roll but I don't think its a VAM, or at least not one that's been discovered yet. I'm going to have Mike from ANACS take a look at it @ the next Long Beach show.
