This never went "way up" but 1993 Upper Deck baseball is a good candidate for kindling. The SMR online only lists the Jeter rookie. I thought some of the subsets were pretty cool - Home Runs Heroes, Then and Now, Iooss (sp) collection - but I never see these traded. Must have been a billion produced.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
Right on Harry If anyone wants any 1991 or 2 UD commons - I opened a boatload of that crap with my son - the boxes were going for 10 bucks - so it was great recreation!

Ya got me...never lived up to the hype! Heck, even the easiest girl in my dorm didn't live up to the hype! I guess that's life?
I have to admit I did get extremely lucky in my one escapade into RC investing.
Back in 1984, I bought about a dozen each of '84 Donruss Kevin McReynolds, and '84 Fleer and Donruss Carmelo Martinez, and get this...100 '83 Topps Tony Gwynn's
Bought the Gwynn's in three separate "bricks" for 75 cents each...
Sold 'em in 1991 for $20 each
The ONLY reason I did it was because I grew up as a diehard Padres fan, and those three were the future of the Padres franchise (well 1 for 3 is a .333 batting average )
Surprisingly, the first card i thought of was Mark McGwire's Olympic card. While it's certainly not "worthless", it sure has come down big time, from when it peaked after breaking Maris' home record, and what it is now (after Bonds then broke his record).
When I was about 16 I got hooked on vintage Pirates cards. I had a Clemente collection from 1956-1973 in EX/MT or better. In 1986-87 I got swept up into the rookie card craze and traded the entire collection for 1985 Topps,Fleer and Donruss Eric Davis rookies. I remember paying $25 for the Donruss. Still makes me sick.
86 Donruss Canseco 86 Fleer Canseco 90 UD Maas I remember a run on Ricky Jordan cards for a time there 84 Fleer Update Gooden Dan McGwire had an UD football card that was going waaay higher than deserved

I'm sick just readin' that
Just remember that you're definitely not the only one who's ever done that
I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the PSA 10 SI for Kids Tiger Woods card that sold for $125K. I don't know how many of us could take a 120K or so hit like that.
Something that I thought would completely go down the toilet but somehow never really did were all those "rare" insert cards from the 1990s; it's amazing how much these cards will flucuate on Da Bay since some of them don't come up often at all. Sometimes a card will get completely overlooked, and others will have a couple of die-hard player collectors bidding like mad. Parallel cards of lower-tier stars and semistars without a lot if any insert card representation sometimes get a LOT of love, such as the '96 Circa Rave cards.
Kobe Who? At least Dwyane pays proper respect to Da Big Aristotle

You have to be a real Baseball/card geek, like me, to remember the spike in Juan Nieves prices after he pitched his no-hitter. Talk about a no-hit wonder!
