Interesing dilema

Ok, so put yourself in this situation and let me know which of the two options you'd go with. Both options have to do with the exact same coin type and there is only a 4$ difference in price between the options.

Option 1 = Purchase "the coin" from a seller outside the country with good eBay feedback. The coin is raw but you have seen good photos and it grades mid-MS range (63ish).

Option 2 = Purchase "the coin" from a seller in the US with good eBay feedback. The coin is in NGC MS65 plastic. You have no, and can get no description of the condition of the coin other than NGC MS65 and pictures are unavailable.

Buy sight unseen with only NGC's reputation or buy low with no surprises? The difference in price from 63-65 is not significant. MS66 is the price break in grade.

Option 1 is not an option with me. Raw coin? And then he's from out of the counrty to boot? Definitely not an option.

    Option 2.

  • I would go with the NGC simply because you know what you're getting - pictures can be deceiving.
  • never had any luck with purchases out of the us. bought a 51 proof set over a year ago and still not received it. from my experiences i would buy the sight unseen slab.

#2... if the seller's in the ANA, you have to get a return policy.

If they're priced right, buy 'em both.
    When in doubt, don't.

option #3: keep looking. You'll eventually find the right coin from the right seller and be confident in the purchase.

In my opinion, with the limited facts you have given us, I would choose option one. However, you don't seem comfortable with either option, and in that case I would simply pass. You will find other coins to spend your money on.

Depends on the coin, and on the image.

If the coin in the image from option one has supurb eye appeal, go with door no. 1

If the coin in the image is average or less, go with option no. 2 -- you will most likely get an average looking coin but the grade will be higher and thus have better eye appeal. Even if you wind up with a dog you can always resell or NCS it.

Thanks for the input guys. I've decided for option 3...I'm gonna pass on both of them. If it's one thing I've learned in coin collecting is wait until the "right" coin comes along. Sometimes it's kinda hard to fight the urge though and wait lol.

That's it Dennis....If they're 55 dollar coins, I will get to see both of them.

    Neither option is terribly exciting.

How about option #4: Slip totally into the DARKSIDE!! image
  • Option one

I can see and get some idea of what the coin looks like. With option two I'm buying a pig in a poke and it bothers me that I can't even get a more detailed description from the seller. In the old sight unseen bidding days that would mean a bid of about 30% of bluesheet so I would be willing to buy option 2 at that level, 30% of Bluesheet.
