Had some hammered English coins graded and certified by ICG

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,445 ✭✭✭✭✭
Called yesterday and got the grades:

Henry V groat S-1762 VF20 This is the 'scowling' variety

Stephen penny S-1278 VF25

Richard I penny S-1348 VF30

I guess ICG, or more specifically Allan Berman, was in a Very Fine mood.

  • Do you know ICG graders in person Don? If so, we should use them more often. I like ICG slabs, they just don't have a good following in times of resale. It's unfair to their ancient & world coin service I think.

I've talked to JP Martin at shows and I've been in contact with James Taylor a few times, although Taylor isn't a grader.

Most people arent aware that Allen Berman does consulting work for ICG. The early hammered coins I sent in to ICG have been graded by Berman who is one of the foremost authorities in the field and a great guy to boot!
