1991 quarter mint mark ?

Can anyone tell me what is going on with this mint mark?

I don't know either ,I was thinking a die chip next to the mint mark might cause this.

It looks like a piece of metal was retained on the die and then transfered to this coin. It doesn't look like a die chip to me, but hopefully one of the error guys will let you know for sure. Neat find!!!

I just noticed it in my change and wasn't sure what caused it ,a piece of metal being retained and transfered makes sense though. Maybe someone will know, doesn't seem to attract alot of attention.

It could be a die chip,but I dont think so either.I would guess Scrap stuck to it during the striking.It seems to be on top of the MM.Hard to tell but it looks laminated.Only a guess.....Neat Coin!

It's got to be a die chip. It's raised above the surface on the coin which means a piece missing from the die. If it was a strike through there would either be a depression into the coin, or if the object was still there it would be prssed into the coin and it would be flush with the surface of the fields not raised above it.
