getting PO'ed at Post Office

In April of this year I sold a coin on e-bay for about $80 bucks and insured it. When the item was not received I filed a claim with the post office. The date the claim was filed was May 6th. When I checked up on it in July I found out St. Louis never received the claim from my local po. They had to resubmit. At least I was assured it would be expedited as they lost the first claim. In Sept. I was asked to provide proof I insured the package again. Fortunatly I still had the receit.
I have been very patient with these people because I understand even if they do what they need to people on the other end must do their part as well. Well it has been 7 months now and yesterday I was told for the second time can you come back in a few days the girl who takes care of that is out.
I went to the postmaster who said they would look into it and get back to me within a couple days. They got back to me and all they could say is it's pending. I refunded the purchasers money as soon as the claim was filed but I could imagine what he would be saying about me if I assigned payment to him.

Sorry for the rant but do you ever feel postal employees just don't care?

  • Solution is to privatize the post office. Any thing that belongs to the government is lax and bureaucratic.

We've had claims take as long as nine months to be paid. If filed properly, you'll eventially get the money. It's all about the process.
  • File a complaint with the postmaster general's office, this happened to me 2 years ago, waited 3 months for a return on the insurance- it was a moot issue to discuss this with an idiot behind a desk- filed complaint- received the insurance within 2 weeks of my letter.

I'm a fair and somewhat arrogant SOB- screw me out of my money- I write letters to EVERYONE.

I am thinking of doing a private insurance company or even self insuring things under $300 and use delivery confirmation to keep the buyer honest. I gave up on my last claim after the USPS took over a year to reply to my claim. mike
  • Here's a link which may help. I do not expect anything to expedite the matter but want to document things so someone realizes how f' uped they are. I told the local postmaster" If the girl who normaly handles this ran off to Mexico(not that this is a bad thing) would they ask everyone to resubmit their claim? The post office is failing me as a custermer."
