Would You Pay a Grand for this Jordan RC?

This is one of those auctions you look at and shake your head....this is the last guy on the planet Earth that I would drop a g-note on for an "authentic" graded Jordan RC!
This is the quote on the FB from the buyer:

<< <i>Didn't get Gem as promised, Got grd.7 at best. Was told"tough luck"I got screwed >>

Interestingly but I'm not totally surprised, there was no response by the seller.

If you wade thru all the bullsh!t, you will see his disclaimer:

<< <i>Picture shown is an example as we may have more than one..not responsable for lost international mail.... >>

And the bottom line is that I'll bet the guy cracked open the one he got and submitted it and got the bad news. The purveyors of Gem Grading should be avoided like the ebola virus IMO!

I rarely say this but I really don't like this seller also.

Is the buyer trying to imply that a reputible grading company was willing to cross a card from a GEM holder into one of their's as a 7? If so, that would be quite a shocker... that GEM actually has untrimmed cards in their holders. And that Jordan could never be worth more, as I'm sure it's probably trimmed or even a fake, to actually get it into any legitimate holder is the only chance the guy has of coming out half-way ok on that deal.

That was about a year ago and I accidentally purchased one of his "Gem" cards - it was totally my bad and he has a no return policy - the problem was that the card was a 1/16" short T/B - 89UD Griffey.
It took me into a realm I never usually go...threats, arguing etc. As a power seller, this guy held all the cards but one...the willingness of my credit card company to reverse the charge.
End result: believe this! Gem grading purchased the card at my invoice and I cancelled the reversal - what was even more surprising was the fact that paypal reversed it also even tho it was past the 30 day window!
Have not had anything like that again - I was new to ebay back then. I was, like, a total idiot!!!

I feel sorry for the poor guy that bought that Jordan rookie.. his feedback also indicates he's bought from "Graded Rookies Authenticated"..

  • Chcek out my sig, I bought 3 cards at once from Kane04, being new to ebay and grading I figured a Gem 9 or 10 would have to be at least a PSA 7, so I bid accordingly. Won a 1955 topps Banks gem 10, 1955 topps Kaline GEm 9, and a Dawson RC Gem 10. Sent the 2 1955's to PSA under their crossover service with Min. grade "any"...cam back evid of trim. STill have the Dawson and thinking of sending it back to GEM.

I purchased a Gem Grading 1978 Topps Pete Rose "Gem 10" card from a seller on eBay a year or two ago (not sure if same seller). When I got it, a back corner demonstrated a push with fraying. Definately not a 10; probablya 7 or 8 at best. Fortunately, I was able to return it. Avoid GEM is the best bet as I think we can see!

  • I have a psa card I bought from kane04. Should I be worried?

    Chris
  • I see your point but this guy has 15,256 feedbacks and 99.3 percent positive - can't be all bad.

Frank.... there are a lot of suckers out there who dont know what the hell they've bought. All those GEM cards have been trimmed. Every single one of them. Plus, many people are scared of leaving negative feedback due to retalitory negatives. Feedback statistics alone can be deceptive, but when you take a moment to see what the actual transaction are, you can get a much better picture.

If you bought a PSA card from him, it is still a PSA card and OK IMO.

    Phone call today:
From Jeremy aka Kane04 and it was a pleasant surprise...he wanted to apologize for our incident and state his position:
"I buy cards that are graded and sell them on ebay...period...if someone has a problem with the grade or quality, take it up with the grading company." I hope I got this correct.
As a side note, I found him to be pleasant and very knowledgeable...and knows a lot of people in the sportscard/memorabilia market. He is well versed on all the grading "issues" with the major 4 companies and has a darn intelligent grasp on that subject.
Having said this, I would not be true to myself if I didn't tell you that I commented to him on the fact that he is "walking the chalkline" by selling Gem with the knowledge of what some of the cards may be like. I'm not in love with that aspect but I can judge the act but not the person...that is for a higher authority.
On the issue of the Jordan RC...Kane04 did not respond to the neg FB but told me the guy did in fact crack and damage the card and still wanted a refund.
I'm not working Wed and I will have to say that this made my day!

heh.. he buys "cards that are graded and sell them on ebay, period" but he still puts this in the description:

"You are bidding on a GEM MINT 10. Gem Grading Inc. is a new and innovative grading company. They feature the most accurate grading system for sports cards."

so if he claims to be so knowledgeable about grading companies, then he is INTENTIONALLY deceiving eBay newbies..

Mike, I wonder if its a coincidence that he called you today, or if maybe he reads this forum?

He told me that someone alerted him to the thread but says he does read from time to time.
On the knowledge thing - knowing everything about this stuff and what you put in ads to sell are two different things...he admits to making a "business" decision on this and he is going to live with it. Personally, it's a compromise that I wouldn't make but I will leave that for others to decide for themselves.

me either.. "They feature the most accurate grading system for sports cards".. heh.. he states it like its fact, when we all know that this can only be an opinion, and an opinion very much in the minority among knowledgeable sports card collectors..

i really hope he reads this thread..

but for the record, i think ive had quite a few successful transactions with Kane04 on PSA graded cards.. luckily, i was already knowledgeable enough to stay away from "GEM Grading"..

That's pretty much what Kane04 was asking for...let everyone make up their own mind.
