bugs bunny franklin

was going through some old threads trying to find out what this was, i came across one thread that had a sample pic. it was a 1955, looked at the 55 in my collection and it IS a bugs bunny! may not be much to some of you, but it is the first time i`ve found anything before. and it is toned really nice too, nice BU coin. those older threads keep me from asking alot of repetitious (and sometimes dumb) questions. i`ve been collecting for a long time, but am just now beginning to get to really enjoy it.

If you take a Franklin half dollar and flip it over, you'll see a small eagle to the right of the bell. The outer feathers of the eagle's wing are directly opposite the mouth opening of Franklin on the other side.

When the dies come together without a planchet between them, they often leave an impression on one another. This impression then transfers to the coins these dies strike. This is called a "die clash."

A "bugs bunny" Franklin is the result of a die clash of the eagle's wing feathers in Franklin's mouth, and appear as bucked teeth...rabbit's teeth.

  • Decent toning for a 55 which typically tones very dark.
I have about 3 from mint sets that are fairly dark blue/red.
Very nice luster and surfaces at the MS-66 level, so when I feel gutsy, they will go to PCGS.
If your grades 65 or higher, it's probably worth getting it slabbed.

I have seen 3 different years in the "Bugs Bunny" Franklins; 1951, 1954 and 1955, with the '55 being the most common.
