COIN MARK PROBLEM FROM NEWBIE

I inherited my father's coin collection. Some of these coins were in holders for over 35 years. Some real good coins in cheap holders that were stapled in plastic. I noticed when I took coins out of these old holders that there were marks where the staples were. Is this permanent? Can I do something to get rid of marks? Was it caused by the metal oxidizing? How much does it affect price? I'm really sick over it. Some beautiful frankies that looked super. These coins would have graded super too. And it only did it to about 4 coins. Thank God! Thank you for your help.

  • It left a dark spot about the size of the point of the staple. I need to get scanner fixed. Then learn how to use it. Then load the gun. Thanks guys. And Russ, I represent that remark.

same thing happened to several silver morgans and mercs my dad had in 2x2's in a safe. Basically, air gets in where the staple is and tones the spot dark brown. a dip will remove it if it is what I think it is. BE CAREFUL!
