Recent crossover results - FYI

1977 Topps Rusty Staub FGS 9 = PSA 8
1979 Topps Jim Palmer FGS 10 = PSA 8
1979 Topps Vida Blue SGC 96 = PSA 9
1977 Topps Fran Tarkenton SGC 96 = PSA 7
1980 Topps Nolan Ryan GEM 10 = PSA 8

I was surprised by the 77 Tarkenton; the rest fell right about where I expected.

BE glad -- VERY glad -- that none of those came back with evidence of trimming.

    I am shocked.

Sorry Mike, I don't have a scan of the Tarkenton. I am hoping for a digital camera for Christmas. image I am fortunate about the trimming I guess.

In examining the Tarkenton, who do you think made the error?

Wow - SGC is usually not that far off. The results on the Tarkenton suprise me also.

  • i have seen a few crossovers now from gem and fgs to psa. do you guys think that it is getting safer to buy these cards. not saying run out an pick up a mantle or rose rookie by any means but base the decision on the seller and scans.

ranger - it would also depend on what the card is. A legitimate '70s card of a HOFer is much more likely to be submitted to an offbrand grading company that is having a special than a truly valuable card is.

    Morrellman,

Of course, I believe that the Tarkenton card deserved better than a 7 (I really expected a 9). I could have understood an 8 but I just don't know why it received a 7. Oh well. SGC usually crosses better I thought. Chalk it up to bad grading luck. image
