tsacchtsacch Posts: 2,929 ✭✭✭
I asked to be on the approved list and this is his reply. Someone posted about this already.......cant find the original post.....

"Hi,

I just read your email and I think that we can start the deal only if you understand that I'm very serious ebay member and for this reason I put pre-approved list,to be sure that the winner will be 100% agree with all my payment and shipping details.
Thank you for your interest in purchasing my gold.First of all I must inform you that currently I'm in Italy and the gold bars are here with me. I have to tell you that I have other serious offers that I have to consider and I will make a decision regarding this sale (payment and price).
The price is $2800 USD with all shipping and insurance charges included. If you agree with this price we can start to complete the transaction. Let me know.

Greetings"

I saw that auction. There are currently about three or four like that on Ebay right now. Another auction has 15, 1oz bars listed with a BIN at about what 10 gold bars would sell for at spot. I wrote to inquire about the discrepancy, but got no reply.

Oddly enough, surfing the gold coins I have seen quite a few auctions that have a BIN with gold under spot. I bought a lot of 10 world gold coins at about $15.00 under spot. Nothing sensational, but I was happy.

I saw one almost exactly like that, same wording, pre-approval requirement and same BIN for about half what it was worth. I emailed the seller to fix their BIN and it turned out it was a hacked account (which explains why the seller of ladies clothing had suddenly branched out into gold bullion).

Anyone would be happy as a clam for this auction.......10 one ounce coins for $2800, thats quite a bit under spot.........Italian address leads me to be smelling fish.........so I will not put it on a plate and eat it.....so to speak.

If you look at the completed auctions there's a Motorola V3 razor cell phone that sold. The listing is nicely designed and it's obvious it was written by a different person.
  • Wait a minute. I already sent him my check for his gold. Could he be selling it twice??

Sad part is somebody probably already got screwed by this guy. P. T. Barnum said it best..." There is a" ................... you know the rest.

  • no need to worry I turned the guy in on a fake listing - tried to bid the 5.00, said no (I supposedly have approval), tried again for 2,000- still a no go, went to 2799.00- still a no go- turned him in- so sorry folks no 10 oz of primo gold coming out of Italy tonight.

I did the same exposure 'experiment', got the same, exact reply. Then asked seller if it could be done in person. Then reported to Ebay. Might be a hi-jacked account.

This seller, has no intention of allowing anyone to bid on/through Ebay. Instead, he is hoping someone will contact him (in the hopes of getting a great deal) and fall for his Western Union scam.

I forwarded his correspondence to Ebay and sure hope that he gets booted before he takes someone for a ride.
  • I contacted the gentleman also. There are so many things wrong here! I've been extolling the virtues of gold to my wife as being easily convertible to cash, even internationally. Why, then, is this individual so willing to let these things go for so little?

I'm wondering if you will ever get any coins out of this and, if so, if they would be what you'd expect. Wasn't there some outfit doing some "gold plated" replicas of the real gold coins???

That ebay listing looks pretty interesting for someone who just has some coins that his "grandfather gave him."

It's been reported over on RCC that this definitely was a hijacked account. The auction has been ended and apparently eBay is restoring the account to the rightful owner.
  • coinguy1coinguy1 Posts: 13,484 ✭✭✭
I was pleased to see that the "auctions" were ended by Ebay. I only hope the scammer didn't take advantage of an easy target through a private transaction - I'm sure he made a number of contacts through Ebay.

I'm very glad that you decided to close this deal with me.To complete this transaction, please email me your address so I can get your package ready to ship. After the transfer was made, please mail me the confirmation that should include the full sender name and address and olso the money transfer control number that registers the transfer(MTCN). The price is $2800 USD (minus the 50% of the WU fee as we agreed) with all shipping and insurance charges included. Here is my NAME AND ADDRESS for payment:

P.S. Please understand one more think :if you ask to western union and tell that you speak about an auction deal I must declair this money and pay tax here;so I'll loose money for nothing. If you are asked you can say you send the money to your wife or your friend, something like this. Let me know asap. If you have other quesions, feel free to mail me back.

well, what the hell, lets take a chance, give me the address.

    tom

-- Sorry, but I can't send you the package before I have the payment confirmation from you.The deal will be closed under eBay's protection and we'll be both protected.I just want a fast and safe transaction for both of us.
I have researched and tested different payment methods and the cheapest ones are the slowest. I have found one that it is the fastest, to make the payment: cash money transfer through Western Union. Western Union is a very simple service, all you have to do is fill a form with my name and address and your name and address and pay in cash;from this service you'll receive a number called MTCN. Western union offices are allmost in every bank or postoffice.Their fees are high, but since I want to make this deal as soon as possible and I believe you are too, I will be prepared to cover 50% of the Western Union wire transfer fees.
As delivery service I use UPS 3days air service (with insurance and 15 days return policy), because it's the faster.
Hope we'll do business.Let me know.

    Greetings

Thank you for your fast reply, however the only way I will be willing to purchase out of USA is for you to ship first.
