submission from 10/1 in- added pics of MS67 54-S

Most are toned nicely. The 1954-S coins are very colorful. Overall I am pretty happy but a couple could have been a point higher. image

    • Great submission, congratulations! Especially the Pop 15 54s quarter, very tough coin. Any pics?

Here's a picture of the 54-S coins. The quarters appear dark in the photo's but actualy have toning similar to the dimes. Is that MS67 54-S really worth $2,200 like it say's on the PCGS price guide? I bought this partial set(only the S mint coins) on ebay for about a $100. mike image

      • Mike,

Now that's a score if I've ever seen one! Especially to come out with an MS67 54s quarter. Would love to add one of the quarters to my set.image

Great submission. Congrats on the Washington. I've got a few toner 54 sets I like, but haven't broken them up. None are in the 67 range. More like 65's. image

You better believe it. Check out this prices realized link from heritage auctions:

          • I've looked at all the 54s in 67 that have come up for auction and this one looks to have more eye appeal than any of them. Especially like the purple shades on the reverse. I'll say it again, what a score! Thanks for the pics.

What a difference between the NGC and PCGS plastic!!

          • cohodk,

The 54s is very tough to find with a nice strike and PCGS has only given out 15 with the lofty grade of 67 while NGC has dished out 229 in 67 (4 of those being 67*) and 3 in MS68. I think it is safe to say that NGC is a little more lenient/generous with their grades.image Hence, the big price difference.

Now that is one heck of a score. I would guess that 54S Washington is much nicer in hand. Noice coin.

Nice quarter and looks like breaking it up and slabbing paid off for you. I have a 57, double mint set that has some amazing coins in it but have not yet been able to break it up.

Thanks guy'simage. Normally I would not break up a set but on this one all I had were the S mint coins- I still feel kind of guilty about it. mike
