My Next Investment: Overton Book

I've been looking more and more at the Halves, and feel I need to get the reference... even if I don't end up seriously collecting them... still good to have reference books on hand image Much like the having the Redbook and the ANA Grading Book next to my desk image

How much does the Overton Book generally run for? And which edition do I want?

  • George,

When you find one (or two image) let me (us) know. I've been looking for one for a few months now.

I asked here on the forums but never got any response.

    Maybe this link will help....

    Coin books

They list it under the New releases and back in print section of their site for about $45.

Here is another site. It doesn't say if they have it in stock or not. I tried calling to see, but only got voice mail.

I got mine not to long ago from another source, but it is not in stock there.

Brooklyn galleries. They have every coin book imaginable, and I have not found cheaper prices anywhere. They ship incredibly fast. Got Overton, Newcomb, Sheldon, etc. from them. Overton 1990 edition is $50.36 plus shipping.

  • rhedden beat me to it. Brooklyn Galleries is the place.

    George,

The Overton 3rd edition is sold out from the publisher, so they will be getting more difficult to find. I always see them on ebay. No 4th edition in the works yet, it might be a while. Mine is worn out, I need a spare.

Overton 3rd edition is a great book. However, there are a couple of varieties that aren't listed; attribution of these can be tricky image

The newer 3rd edition is pretty good. That is the one I have. I had 6 coppies and sold them last year. It has most of the overton varities (some Bust half collectors can point out which once were removed from the 1st edition). I didn't know it would be so hard to find now.

I don't own this book, but it's the one I'd buy if I were into the Bust Halves.
(I've had the Overton book for many years.)

I think I can get the Overton book for around $50 delivered. If interested, let me know and I'll check into it.

    Thanks,

I think you'll enjoy having the book.
Then you can identify better varieties and try to obtain them at the prices of common coins.
