Happy dance! (or, where are all the bidders?)

Tapped out for Christmas? Tonight's eBay pickings: 1952 and 1953 PCGS PR-67 Jeffs, both Benson pedigreed. Total for both: $46.66. I'll buy up all the early '50s proofs in 67 I can get my hands on for $7 over economy slabbing fee. image

    hey Randy

those will go begging in the current market because there are just too many CAM/DCAM coins and too many in PR65-67 holders, probably close to 400 of each date at PR67, with the grades dropping sharply after that. what it tells me is that if i locate a raw proof 1952-53 Jefferson it'll almost certainly grade PR65-67 so collectors are willing to pay the long dollar for PR68 and any CAM/DCAM. the grade at PR67 is almost certainly a weaker strike at the steps and/or hairlines. i guess they aren't a bad coin to be putting away for a wise specialist collector like yourself, but i assume that the figuring in the minds of generalists is that they'll wait for a better coin and pay.

it seems that the same thing happens with all but the highest graded DCAM's from the early 60's. a 67 will languish while a 68/69 for 1960-61 gets pushed high and all but 69's for 1963-64 seem uninspiring. my tendancy isn't to hoard a date when the hole is filled or i'd be competing against you. image i'm more of a hole-filler-and-then-upgrader kind of guy.
