Hit the Top 5. Merc No Bands.

Probably will not last very long but its there right now... image

The coins that were entered today came out of two different auctions that were held in 1988. Fresh to the market in my opinion. All three are in Rattler holders and in my so very humble opinion two of them are undergraded for sure. The third a 35D has a fully proof like reverse. I tried for about a hour to get a decent picture but all attempts failed. The coins came from a Web Site that was stumbled on about a week ago. Needless to say I have a Email into them asking if any more coins like these are in their stock. Heck I would buy them just to have them.

Take Care.

    Ken,

Nice pick-ups - you're having fun adding to this set - and so much less $ too - lets do a voodoo thingy on anyone that passes you image For some reason I love the older PCGS slabs (the rattlers) just somethimng about them..this aura so to say.

Tony that is a fine 19-S and quite close to split - is that slabbed 63 or what?

    Ken,

Congrats on the additions. It sounds like you found a good source, which I'm sure you want to keep secret (can't blame ya!). The '35-D is an underrated coin, IMO. I haven't seen one of those with P-L surfaces, although I've seen several '34-D's that are fully PL on both sides. I have a raw '40-D and a PCGS '40-S that are P-L, and haven't had much success in capturing that quality in photos either.

I'm glad you're keeping your set purely NB coins. As you know, some of them are harder to locate than their FB counterparts. If you keep nipping at my heels, I'm going to have to pick up some NB coins to stay ahead. image I wouldn't mind having the common dates in 67.

    Thanks guys...image

Tony will you please quit showing me that coin ? Thank You. As a sidelight I was looking in one of the Heritage Auctions and a 18S in plain66 had a bid that was very strong money. I just have a feeling you ripped me REAL BADLY on that 19S.

    Marc....that 19S is a MS66 coin.

Here is the best I can do on the 35D. The camera picks up everything but what I want it to show. Maybe you can see the proof like surfaces on the reverse. The reverse is much more pronounced than the obverse.

From what I have heard Wannabe's and Collectors only sell junk. How could that be one of your best coins ?

Anyway back to that little reference I made about the 18S in 66 going for some nice money on the Heritage Auction. The coin has a bid of $5500.00. Either someone is crazy or the market has gone Ballistic For Sure. Your 19S is a better coin and much tougher to find. I think you Ripped Me or just maybe I am Dumber than a Pitching Wedge. Or maybe both.....image

    Ken,

Great additions to your set. I am really glad that you have come into the NB set. The waters are not as deep here, but the collecting is just as much fun.

Rick hunting for these little devils certainly is a chore but quite fun. It is amazing how few examples exist for some of the dates. I just may have to cheat a little and add a FB coin or two into the set. I figure this would be cool just as long as I made the dime. One more Merc has to be found in the Raw state and then a submission is going to be sent to PCGS. Here is one of them. It has a chance at FB but I think it will NB. It is not as tan as the picture shows. image

    Ken,

I think that coin will end up a NB coin because of the hit in the center of the bands, but you never know. FYI, I have an extra 44-S in 67 NB if you are interested, PM me and I will make you a good deal on it.

    Ken,

Congrats on your new additions. The 35-D is very nice, and one my favorite dates. Here is my 35-D, pic isn't too good though. image

Hi Don. How are you. That coin looks good to me. You should put a little color on it though. image

Todays progress netted 4 more No Band coins. It took a few days with emails back and forth to get some with a little color. Darn I wish these dealers would all have pictures on their sites. Anyway they should look good because purchases have been made from the dealer before with very good results.

Oh yea. The collectors club was rejoined. 8 of these Little Ladies will go south in about two weeks. When they are sent a post will be made with the grades I think PCGS will give. Pretty daring on my part. Possibly I could turn into the worst Merc Grader know to mankind... image

Watch out Rick, I'm after you.....image

I like the toning on your '34-P, Ken., It's got lots of luster showing through. Good luck with your next submission. It'll be interesting to see your grades compared to those given by PCGS.

Jim a PM was sent on what I think the grades might be. In two or three weeks we will see if I am a Doofus grader or not. image
