Besides the obvious Accented Hair, what other potential upside may be in this set? Carl is not allowed to answer. image

Ken got it. Looks DCAM and odds are it's a Pointed 9.

Are "pointed nine" Roosie's likely or always found in these sets that contain AH's?

    Very likely, but not always.

I don't have alot of data, but in my experience, about 75% of the AH Kennedy sets have pointed 9 dimes. That would seem to indicate that both varieties were early dies in the production run during 1964.

I have a pointed 9 dime in an 8dcam PCGS holder - nice coin - but no attribution from PCGS. I have been looking for another dcam pointed 9 for over two years and haven't found one.

Russ, you probably have seen more AH Kennedy sets than anyone, do you have an estimate of the percentage of pointed nine dimes accompanying the AH Kennedys?

    Cameonut,

I think you're about right - the 75% to 80% range. Interesting thing is that a set that has a Pointed 9 is close to 100% likely to have an Accented Hair, but not the other way around. I've seen plenty of AH sets with blunt 9's.

Carl made the first PR69UCAM Pointed 9 at NGC (they do designate them). It was a pop 1/0 for quite a while, but Marty just made one.

Yeah, but he's never made a 1964 proof Kennedy in NGC PF69UCAM. I OWNZ him on that one! image

  • Don! That was a big clue, shame on you!

Marty PM'd me when he finally got one. He was hitting all around it with 69 cams and 68 Ultras. It took him a while but as I knew he was trying so hard I wasn't the slightest disappointed when he got one in 69 Ultra, in fact I'm very happy there are now two!

Russ thought his raw dime might not be 69 but NGC thought it was. Ultra was never in question on that one. George was pretty sure his wouldn't 69 and I agree, but it is still a neat dime (thanks George!).

I don't normally go through sets like these but I had a chance to go through a bunch of them recently. I found pointed nine dimes in sets with no AH JFKs and I found sets with AH JFKs but no pointed nine dime. However I will agree that they are often found together, perhaps even more often found together than not.

image This is the first of heard of a "Pointed Nine" on a dime. I have a couple 64 Set's that I'll need to look for this on. Can someone post pictures of each. Any special premium for these? Thanks, Lee
