Another Milestone Achieved - Finished Kennedy Set

This is the 6th set I've finished this year. It took me about 6 months to assemble. Average grade is MS65. Of all the sets, this one was the easiest to complete, but I will admit, some dates are getting tough to find in nice grades. The set is raw, but I was very selective. I must have returned 10 each of the 1982 and 1983's before I found a suitable one for the slots as they are generally dogs. The 1999S Silver proof is a Proof69 DCAM and its in the PCGS slab in the last two photos as its actually now a top key coin in the set. I am sorry about the quality of some of the photos, my cameras chip is dying and when it works, its half crappy. Not shown are a Super Gem 1964 Accented Hair, and one each of the SMS years in Cameo. The only set I am now working on is a high grade raw Mercury Dime set. It will be a while for that one! Enjoy.....

That's a great looking album set. I've built a few as well, and really like to look of the finished product. You're right about the 82-83 stuff.

  • That 68-D looks like it has the typical haze from the 68 mint sets. MS70 will remove it, but it is also a protective layer and is not reacting with your coin so you may want to keep it unless you hope for the coin to tone over the years.

    Nice set.

An excellent set - just don't drop it on your foot; that has to be rather heavy!

What? You don't have early access to the 2005s yet? image

Nice set! I have one that looks an awful lot like it.

It looks good. MS-65 isn't easy but most of the coins can be quite inexpensive.

Congratulations! It's a great feat. I started my set back in 2000 and still have several holes. Of course I have it completed in PCGS slabs but I started with the raw coins. I have them from PCGS from my 1964 in 69DCAM to the 2004-D in MS 68. BUT, it looks much nicer in the book. I have several of mine with rainbow toning also in my set. Perhaps your little nudge will help me re-focus on my set I started almost 5 years ago. Even in MS 67, the 83 and 83 Kennedys are VERY weakly struck. It's hard to differentiate between the MS 66 and 67 in the slabs. Most of the other years are very easy to tell the difference. Maybe now you want to try completing a complete MS Kennedy set in PCGS MS 66. Because everyone is trying for the 67's and higher, the 66's are a lot of times the 'cast-offs" and sold cheap. Still a nice coin. Another nice thing about the raw set, you can acrry your whole set in one book. The PCGS set in proof and MS takes up 7 blue boxes. Again, congratulations!!!! Ray
