error wheat penny

I have a 1956-D wheat penny that is missing the "I" in Liberty. the coin shop said it was an error coin. does anyone know its value. it is in excellent shape. thank you in advance

That or a worn out die. If all the letters around the missing one are mushy and squished, it's a worn out die. If everything around the missing letter is as sharp as it should be, grease filled die. Either way, not uncommon.
