1957 Topps question

I have always liked this issue, and the Mays card is one of my favorites. I have been looking for this card in a PSA 7 for some time. Rarely do I see one that is centered and focused. Is this common for the card?

Thanks in advance fellas.

this card is simply amazing ..especially in high grade in lesser grades some of the cards' focus is so bad you can see a ghostly image behind him ..." the babe ruth ghost"

    Nice card!

I have the following cards in PSA 7, and each one is perfectly centered with great focus:

    Aaron
    Mantle
    Snider
    Ashburn
    Roberts
    Wynn

I need to find the Mays!!!!!

  • Mays comes up from time to time. I just sold a PSA4 last week. It's centering was up and to the right. Seems like they have a lot of issues with this card.
The Clemente seems to have snow-regardless of centering.
I'd like a 57 Mays PSA 7 as well if there are extras!

I have been looking at all of the #1 Williams cards (albeit in PSA 6) and the auction the ended last week was the only one that I found centered. Sometimes this $275 SMR card can go for $200 because of the significant corner centering. I think it may have to do with its placement on the sheet. Is the Mays a corner card on the sheet (assuming that is even a valid theory)?

Calleocho....I'm glad you like my Mantle card. Please don't trade it to Elway!

1420....Focus and corners are the big problem with 1957's. I've owned several nice Mays cards, but they all graded 5 or 6 due to corner wear. Centering was usually pretty good.

    mantlefan,

thank you for scanning your cards, it makes the registry so much better by being able to actually see the cards especially in such high grade.

here is scan of the mays from the 1957 set registry, branca and fogel both have mays in 9's but not scans image
