I'm assuming from this post that you have not seen the ring and that they said they had it...I agree with Helio - first, he was on the losing team...thus...no WS ring....but even a Pennant winning ring from the "vintage" baseball years is a great collectible! The value for this stuff is all over the board - who, where, what etc.
Here's a link of a big seller in SCD, Scott Welkowsky...he always has WS, championship rings for sale. It would be interesting to see what he says vs. Lelands, Mastro etc.
Also, a player's ring will go for more than an exec's ring - and of course there are "salesman's sample" rings that come up for sale also.
If you want to look at top dollar e.g., Mantle's 1956 WS ring brough over 100K years ago. This is the kind of stuff I will never see in my collection!
Pee Wee Reese's 55 WS ring - sold for like 50K if memory serves.
Good luck

edit: chance pic
Mike thanks for the link.
I know you are busy, but if you get a chance, could you place the 61 team ball in a scanner and show some of the panels? Would like to see the Mantle, Maris, Yogi etc. sigs! That is a great ball!!! If any kind of shape, the book on it is very conservative at about 2 grand. Who is on the sweet spot?
And the all-star ball - that would be 1942! He hit a homer! You got Williams and DiMaggio on that ball?
If in any kind of shape - that ball will also bring some nice coin along with the American League Championship ring! You are a lucky guy to get to handle this stuff!!!!
I'm very green with envy right now.

P.S Mike you look like you have been hanging out with bonds to long from that picture
A quick story:
In about 1988 the National card show was in Chicago, and I took the train down on Wednesday (I was about 14 or so) to attend the seminars and see the speakers they had lined up. I think Alan Rosen was speaking, and he passed his Phil Rizzuto (I think) World Series ring around the room of 20 or 30. I happened to be in the back corner, so I ended up holding the ring for the rest of his discussion. It was incredible. That day I told myself that I'll someday own a World Series ring. I don't have one yet, but I won't be surprised if I get one in the next ten years. I'd really like a player's ring, and I'd like one from a Giants World Series. (Unfortunately, my options are rather limited there...)
Anyway, I just wanted to share that story. Over the years, I've told it to each of my serious girlfriends at one point or another. If they respond with, "that's awesome...I'm sure you'll get one" it means she's a keeper. If the response is, "you want to spend $5000 on a ring and not give it to me?" then we've got some talking to do.
(Edited to say, "thanks for the link...now I've got lots of rings to drool over...)
Thanx for sharing your story and look forward to the pics - if you place the ball in a cube, it scans real nice.
On the all-star...that was 1942 and he it a homer! If think Durocher was the manager. Didn't write anything down - was just tryin to get the year. That ball is a keeper! Good luck
