  • an item like that should ONLY be sold in a mastro or lelands auction. how much? no idea. call mastro, but it all depends on whose looking and if bidders get into a bidding war. a 1932 yankees w.series ring sold or over $7,000 in sothebys halper auctin it belonged to lynford lary. estimate for it was 2,000-3,000 thousand. so i guess that would be a good guess.

I don't know what to make of your post. In 1934, York played just 3 games for Detroit, and there is no record of his playing in the World Series that year. Plus, the Cardinals beat Detroit, so if he did somehow get a ring for that year, it would've been a loser's ring, or rather a League Championship ring versus a World Champion. He did play in 3 Series, in 1940, 1945, and 1946 for Detroit twice and Boston once, winning in 1945 with Detroit (obviously). York was an All-Star, and his name resurfaced in 1998 because Sosa broke his record for homers in a month, so it's a somewhat recognizable name again. So if some facts could be clarified, that would help assessing a price. Not from me, though. I don't know about stuff like that. I would certainly recommend going to one of the big houses, though, and they'd help in assessing value. That's what they get their 15% for.

I'm assuming from this post that you have not seen the ring and that they said they had it...I agree with Helio - first, he was on the losing team...thus...no WS ring....but even a Pennant winning ring from the "vintage" baseball years is a great collectible! The value for this stuff is all over the board - who, where, what etc.
Here's a link of a big seller in SCD, Scott Welkowsky...he always has WS, championship rings for sale. It would be interesting to see what he says vs. Lelands, Mastro etc.
Also, a player's ring will go for more than an exec's ring - and of course there are "salesman's sample" rings that come up for sale also.
If you want to look at top dollar e.g., Mantle's 1956 WS ring brough over 100K years ago. This is the kind of stuff I will never see in my collection! image

Pee Wee Reese's 55 WS ring - sold for like 50K if memory serves.

    Good luck

I know you are busy, but if you get a chance, could you place the 61 team ball in a scanner and show some of the panels? Would like to see the Mantle, Maris, Yogi etc. sigs! That is a great ball!!! If any kind of shape, the book on it is very conservative at about 2 grand. Who is on the sweet spot?
And the all-star ball - that would be 1942! He hit a homer! You got Williams and DiMaggio on that ball?
If in any kind of shape - that ball will also bring some nice coin along with the American League Championship ring! You are a lucky guy to get to handle this stuff!!!!
I'm very green with envy right now.

Can we all agree to not call it a "loser's ring" any more? image Seriously, good luck with the auction.

    A quick story:

In about 1988 the National card show was in Chicago, and I took the train down on Wednesday (I was about 14 or so) to attend the seminars and see the speakers they had lined up. I think Alan Rosen was speaking, and he passed his Phil Rizzuto (I think) World Series ring around the room of 20 or 30. I happened to be in the back corner, so I ended up holding the ring for the rest of his discussion. It was incredible. That day I told myself that I'll someday own a World Series ring. I don't have one yet, but I won't be surprised if I get one in the next ten years. I'd really like a player's ring, and I'd like one from a Giants World Series. (Unfortunately, my options are rather limited there...)

Anyway, I just wanted to share that story. Over the years, I've told it to each of my serious girlfriends at one point or another. If they respond with, "that's awesome...I'm sure you'll get one" it means she's a keeper. If the response is, "you want to spend $5000 on a ring and not give it to me?" then we've got some talking to do.

(Edited to say, "thanks for the link...now I've got lots of rings to drool over...)

Thanx for sharing your story and look forward to the pics - if you place the ball in a cube, it scans real nice.
On the all-star...that was 1942 and he it a homer! If think Durocher was the manager. Didn't write anything down - was just tryin to get the year. That ball is a keeper! Good luck

some pics are up look at first post! any info you guys may have on the tigers ring i would appreciate. it says detroit 34 in a shield on side. it has rudy york name engraved on the inside of the band.

Jeff is looking to sell the ring it has been passed down as a world series ring but he or i arent sure weather its a world series loser's ring or an al championship ring. we are aware he only played 3 games for the tigers that year but he did get a ring.
