Bought a cool toned 58 mint set at a CAR SHOW also my car placed in the show

Of all places to find a coin dealer setup was the Autorama car show this weekend in Houston. Looked through his stuff and found a toned 58 mint set and a 1956 pr69 PCGS washington. While walking arounf the show one day I recognized a local coin collector at the show, small world.

Also, my all original 1968 Mustang placed 4th in the 1968-1972 restored class at the car show. Cool thing about the car is I have not put anything into the car since I bought it a month ago except having the engine cleaned. I am looking forward to putting a few bucks into her and seeing how she does at the next show.

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
  • When are you going to post pics of the mint set?

All original in the restored class. Is that something like a all original coin that has been conserved ? Outside of that its preety tough in the Mustang classes. People go nutso with those things.

that was the only class they had for my car. Basically it is a car that has been driven and taken care of since new and no money has been thrown at it for restoration.

Someone said there was a category at some shows called "Survivor" which I think would fit better for this car.

  • What did you think of the 55 Nomad that won "Best Restored" of the show? I missed the coins. Was he set up in the swap meet area? Later, CCG

Yes, mine was in the Mustang club of Houston area. It was the gold one behind the 2005 Mustang. I missed the 55 Nomad. I was a little late to the awards ceremony.

Did you see the yellow 1968 Mustang GT500KR, now THAT"S a cool car!
  • Congrats on your award. The yellow 68KR is a very rare color! I was a judging supervisor for the International Show Car Association for almost 20 years. The ISCA is the sanctioning body for the Houston Autorama and about 40 other shows around the country.
  • very cool

CCG do you know my ex brother in law Gerald McBee ? He has a Riveria that was one of the Top 10 or Top 50 Rods in the nation a few years ago. Its all tricked out with Cad running gear and all other sorts of gadgets.

JB thats true. Sometimes the classes are bizarre. Most of the time my car has to go modified just because the bench seat was changed to bucket seats. Heck a stock looking car going up against blown monsters. Not much of a chance there. Oh well I built it to drive anyway.

  • I can see where that could be a decent place for a coin dealer to set
up if they have inventory of dates the same as cars being shown. Vintage
car owners definately like cool stuff and can appreciate originality. Plus,
it not being their primary hobby, they might not be as concerned with the
price as say, coin collectors. image

  • Nice find, image

Is it in original mint packaging? Any images you can post !!

  • Fairlaneman, The name rings a bell, but can't place him. Around what part of the country? - Back in the eighties I judged a 64 Impalla over in Shreveport with a diamond patterned button/tucked interior that the guy had made all the buttons out of 1964 silver dimes. As I recall it also had a heavy red metalflake paint. Slightly out of fashion today. The buttons were definately different.

JB, cool about the car and coins. HOw the crate motor coming?
Family, kids, coins, sports (playing not watching), jet skiing, wakeboarding, Big Air....no one ever got hurt in the air....its the sudden stop that hurts. I hate Hurricane Sandy. I hate FEMA and i hate the blasted insurance companies.
  • JB- If you have a true "surviver car" ie:mostly original paint etc. please think carefully before you try any restoration. It's kind of like polishing your coins to make them look better, to restore some cars that are untouched. They and very rare that way! Do not throw anything away, no matter how grungy it seems when replaced ! Have fun.image

99% of the parts are here and the assembly starts this week!

it is a survivor. it was repainted in 1986 to the factory color. I am only going to replace parts that are completly worn out (this will be a short list). I will also have the undercarriage completely detailed. this car will stay a original car.
