Absolutely nothing wrong with the card, I guess it's the buyer you're referring to. Gary's rep aside, it doesn't make sense to chop a PSA 8 Seaver rookie for even a PRO 10 grade. Mr. Mo paid about $750 inc. shipping ... exactly SMR. He's not going to get anywhere near his money back by selling it in a PRO holder, even if he convinces them to grade it "11 Ultra Special Mint Untrimmed."

Maybe he's taking the wvshoebox strategy, which is to buy sharp PSA 8's and try to flip 'em into GAI 8.5's. Huge risk to chop it, though. Not saying GAI catches every trimmed card, but they do reject them. Besides, what's to chop? It's already centered, already sharp, already quite valuable.

Maybe he just wants a real, unaltered PSA 8 Seaver rookie. image

I agree with JR, I do not think for a moment that this guy (or any other guy) chops every card that comes into their possesion. That would be ludicrous.
    Good for you.

This guy has already proven over and over that he can slip his altered cards past PSA. I seriously doubt he has any intention of fixing the Seaver up only to have it graded by PRO or buying the card for his personal collection.

it won't be going to pro, basically he will crack it and see if any modifications are needed and send it to psa and gai repeatedly until he gets it through in a 9 holder. that's his business , sometimes the card may not need cosmetic surgury and sometimes it will. when he is buying 5's and 6's those will be getting an extreme makeover
  • I think that is a beautiful 8 which could easily and accurately end up in an 8.5 holder. From the scan, it looks like it wouldn't look out of place in a 9 holder (LL corner??). Definately a candidate for crack and resubmit, IMHO.

Well, maybe not chopped. But you can bet your bottom dollar the card will somehow find its way into a higher grade holder.

I agree with those who think this is a borderline 9 or 8.5. Also, of interest, is the way the vintage RC's of pitchers has softened tremendously. Years ago, people were putting up a lot more dough for this card in an 8!

i recently sold a high-end PSA 8 for almost twice SMR.. it was to a big name dealer, but the dealer was using an alternate eBay ID..

I keep expecting the card to show up in a higher grade, for some reason..

  • This card is a 9 in an 8 holder. It seems in this instance he bought the card and not the holder. It just needs the right grader to agree with him that it deserves a 9.

Would a GAI 8.5 sell for more than an obvious high-end psa 8?

I've seen cases where they actually sold for less.

I feel pretty crappy too. It's the last card I need for the set in 8+. Oh well.imageimage
