  • I have an idea. Buy the cheapest coin you can find at the Heritage Internet sale tonight- import it into your sig. line, and then start over with your question. If you're honest, nobody will care what the coin is or isn't, as long as you like it. I promise you'll do much better with your questions.

Tough crowd tonight- and it's only one day after christmas! image

After reviewing his coin offers on the BST forum, it looks pretty clear to me that people had good reason to be suspicious of this guy....
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • I have pics from him on the coins- I'm so pi$$'d at this time I want to chew his a$$ and slap him like a ugly redheaded stepchild. I'll post in this thread tomm. just for an FYI.
  • He solicited me via email tonight:

    MS:

<< <i>Hello,I have an 1884-S morgan dollar graded MS60(PCC). I was wondering if you were interested? >>

    << <i>Thankyou,Matt >>

    ME:

<< <i>I would need to see very detailed photos of this coin, then I may be interested. >>

<< <i>When the photos are sent please include a price. >>

    << <i>Thanks, Tom >>

    MS:

<< <i>Here are the photos.Im asking around $250-$300 since the grading company is not VERY well known. >>

<< <i>That grading company is not very well know because it does not exist. Those holders are a dime-a-dozen. You can buy them bulk on Collectors Universe web page. Someone slabbed that coin and madeup that label. Ohhh, by the way, sorry to be the one to tell you this, but that coin has been cleaned. The coin itself would probably net grade at EF. I would be willing to give you $30. >>

    << <i>Thanks for the offer, Tom >>

  • I offered him 10 each on his 81o,82o/s, 86o,92s,97o. they are worse than this one. AMAZING

This guy is a scammer all the way, AU details, net XF and those are labels he made up. Unfortunately for him he did not realize he was trying to pawn this crap on a very knowledgable group of people that frequent this board.
  • Actually I don't see a lot of hairlines, the coins just look lile AU's that have been dipped 20 Times

too often. As key dates, if he just represented them correctly in ANACS net grades, he might make

a decent profit!!! I mean dealers aren't going to ask a whole lot for them when dumping this junk--

and some poeple do just want cheapo "place holders" for their albums. But, since he's so high pressure

he could find employment at a nice telemaketing operation selling common gold at 50% over full retail--until they go to jail!!imageimage

Does this dude really think that people around here would fall for that and buy a POS like that??

  • << <i>Matthew, interesting sigline coin you described as "I bought this coin 5years ago and everyday its worth more and more money!AND NO YOU CANT BUY IT!"

FYI, here's some more info on that coin from it's sale at the Bowers and Marina Auction, Lot #11739 The John F. Rindge and Alan J. Harlan Collections Session Three, Closed 12/05/2003 09:00 AM PST:

    Lot # 2288
1895 Morgan Silver Dollar Proof-66 Deep Cameo (PCGS).
    Lot Information
    Final Bid: $51,750.00 (includes 15.00% buyer's premium)
Description: A simply stunning coin from the moment you first lay eyes on it, this one will attract considerable attention for its deep gold peripheral toning and headlight centers. We note a hint of blue intermixed in the dentils on the obverse and reverse. The surfaces show none of the usual hairlines or cleaning marks, and this coin somehow survived unscathed by residing quietly in a collector's holdings for many years. The strike is needle-sharp and flawless. With a mintage of just 880 pieces in Proof, there simply aren't many to go around for all the Morgan dollar collectors who would like to own an example.
PCGS has graded only 2 this high in deep cameo, with 7 higher. A worthy acquisition for the specialist who demands outstanding quality.

Philadelphia Mint records reflect 12,000 were coined for general circulation, but none have been found. Therefore, it is assumed that the entire mintage of 12,000 business strikes were melted under the Pittman Act of 1918, which melted down millions of Morgan dollars then held in Treasury vaults. As this date was known in proof condition, it was usually included in most albums and collections, keeping demand very high for the few proofs available. Here is one of the nicest we have seen in some time, a coin that was put away decades ago. Expect fireworks when this gem crosses the auction block.

Three gem Proof 1895 dollars in this sale resided in the same collection for many years until recently consigned to this sale.

Excellent detective work EE image clearly worth the 2nd ever "Lt. Columbo" Award.
Amazing. Do 1895-P Proofs and not-Proofs come up so regularly or is this a hot month or two? Heck, isn't this one of the the same coins used in the last 1895 thread?

    You've got a good eye!" - Lt. Columbo..ouch..

  • Ok let me tick off everybody: I repeatedly see any number of younger posters with outright bulls#$t sig lines, stories , etc where they clearly have (at a minimum- emotional insecurities) and in two recent cases I'd bet a GEM CC Morgan suffered an untreated Biploar condition. Yet everyone "seems" to delight in showning these disturbed individuals what fools they are, not realizing that in some very very obvious cases, there is a risk on the order of 20% for successful suicide. I do volunteer work here at a hospital and see these problems as often as once a week- so perhaps it's more obvious to me. In fact I PM'd one poster recently and he admitted stopping his med.'s!! And said so here later.

But when a slimeball, lying, decietfull, Ebay wormy lier and misrepresents coins I don't see the same anger!! What's going on?? In the recent poll related to a poll by Julian more than 1/2 the Forum members defended asking any price and selling anything--caveat emptor!! I think research is great but it is misdirected, especially when a LOT of Forum Members think anything goes, no regulation or rules or ethics. I think we should give those with some problems that are obvious here a bit of slack--at least try it around the holidays.image and a little extra Sh*t for the frauds in their X-mas sales!image

  • Well, speaking for myself I was commenting ony of the frequency of 1895-P Proofs....

    Billy

PS - this is not necessarily the first place I'd look for an even playing field or rationality Morgannut2 image
  • On rationality I'm sure near the bottem. And when my favorite Morgan ('95) comes up well I don't know what the shrinks would call it-- Obsessed is too weak a diagnosis!!! I love it when these old auction coins are looked up, especially when they've been prettied up for a two point ugrade and $$$$ profit! I'm just shocked at the X-mass eve poll where the majority favored selling any POS at any price, hiding behind their support of free enterprise and anti-regulation. And, I just feel sorry for anyone so out of it that they want free flips, but that's I guess an opinion no one shares.

I think you're reading too much into that poll. The question was whether it constitued fraud - not whether it was ethical or supported.

Now - back onto your meds! image

Ok, so you proved the sig line pic wasn't his? He edited and admitted it wasn't. can not believe some of you people !!! A person comes on here with a simple question and he's immediately attacked ??

    Doug,

the reason for that is similar to what I thought the second I read the first tag line and post - heck this guy was fraud from the very first minute.
It seems that most here can read a scammer pretty good from the early moments on - this guy has been on the BST boards already so that did not help his case image neither did the switch and detective work. It seems there are many experts on board here and we kind of get major turned off and insulted when a dumba$$ thinks he can pull the wool over here.
You know I noticed a number of times newbies coming on and many have posted and offered help and all - I recall thinking these are true newbies and they were getting true blue help from many here. The real deals that come on board here have really gained and do get the support they deserve.
Seems like a minor apology to this thread may be in order ehh image come on cough it up image

You people need to lighten up a bit on the newbies. Some of you are set for a public lynching because of "spam" accusations and a hidden profile that he didn't know about? It might have been better to nicely explain what spam means first.

When you decide you wish to sell to the public, you open yourself to public criticism. (Sort of like running for public office!)
