Hi all! Yesterday, my wife Carol and I went to Baltimore and took along grandson Aaron and my local dealer and good friend Vince!
We had the opportunity to meet some old friends and a new one or two. We saw Goose and his entourage, Merz and his great niece, Dollars and his lady Doris, Merc, Tootawl, Mark Woods, and new member Xbob.
Humor: Goose called Tootawl "Two story" when he asked Carol and I if we had seen him!
The show was not very busy!
We had lunch across the street and traded lies back and forth! The food and beer were good and a good time was had by all!
....................................................................................................................................
We have all heard the "Bad dealer " stories! Well, when we were leaving lunch, there was a group just leaving the show that had been there to see if they could verify this report of bad dealers!
....................................................................................................................................
Ok, on with the report!
My grandson Aaron shows off his newly acquired paper note purchase. Yes, the kid don't like metal collecting!
His new note is a Western Exchange Fire and Marine Insurance Co. $3 note. Dated Nov. 2, 1857 from Omaha City, Nebraska. I think he likes it! What do you think??
....................................................................................................................................
My biggest find of the day was some more Gobrecht medals!
A great big Thank You goes out to Goose for alerting me to the presence of the medals and their approximate whereabouts!
These Medals were made for the Hanover (Pennsylvania) Numismatic Society and were made mostly in bronze and some in silver. I was told by the dealer selling these that the silver are very rare because they were either recalled or confiscated!
Hanover is the birthplace of Christian Gobrecht! And me!!!
....................................................................................................................................
First up is the 1966 bronze version!
....................................................................................................................................
Next is the 1966 Silver version!
....................................................................................................................................
Lastly, is the 1967 Silver version!

Ken,
Thanks for bringing your grandson to the show. We need more collectors like you in the hobby to help keep it alive and well. It was good seeing you yesterday. Sorry we didn't have much of a chance to talk.

Thanks! Carol and I have agreed though, that from now on, there will only be one grandkid per show! It's easier to keep track of one and keep their attention on the show and their hobby! We'll just take grandkids to shows on a rotating basis.
Yes, I missed talking with you, but did go back and buy two coins from your partner Andy!..

I hope the dealers were nice to your grandson. When I was a youngster eons ago, many dealers went out of their way to be nice to me (the most outrageous of which gave me an uncirculated 20 cent piece!). Nowadays, it seems that dealers don't seem to give a damn, and consider youngsters a nusiance. This is shortsighted IMO, and bad for the hobby/industry.
I'm considered a weirdo for giving youngsters coins for Xmas, graduation, etc. I've even been known to give coins as birth gifts. All gifts come with a note explaining the coin, and the birth gift notes say "this gift will be around long after all of that baby crap is forgotten"!

majorbigtime, yes they were! The dealers always go out of their way to do good things for my grandkids. The dealer where he got his paper note also gave him a 1987 Proof set free of charge! A lot of the dealers know that I'll be back for more purchases later if treated good now!...

I had lunch beside Ken and showed him my 1799 dollar I've had for a few months now. I was able to see many interesting coins. If you had the money, you could buy about anything. One was a 1917 proof walker. The dealer knew I wouldn't/couldn't buy it, but brought it out for me to examine. It had matte/orange peel surfaces and was well struck. The rims were broad and squared off as a proof. ANACS called it a presentation piece but wouldn't call it a proof since no official proofs were made in 1917. Asking price, $25,000.
I didn't buy anything. Yep, it is sad, going to a coin show without buying a thing. I'm finding dealer retail is too much for me now. Prices have gone up, then many dealers are asking 50% mark ups.

get hugs from the girls from Hooters
meet women
hook with a Hooter's girl (a rarity)
sing twisted Christmas tunes!
