The Grinch who stole Christmas

As someone who reads the boards every day, I realize that there are not very many modern registry collectors who post but here it goes anyway: I just received my grades from a small November special send-in. I sent in 5 cards-received 4 nines and an eight. I can't believe I was this far off on my grading. I am very particular, so nines surprise me and an eight leaves me wondering, Did I get the Grader of Death? or Did I get the Grinch? In my registry set, one out of three cards on average pull down a ten so I was really hoping for two or three 10's and the rest 9's. I have never popped cards out of the holder and I doubt I will do this to the 8 but on a modern card with thick stock it just seems hard to get an eight. I do have another 5 card order being processed so I hope for better results. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

1. Loupe
2. Scanner
3. clear platic piece I bought you lay it on the card and it will give you the centering all the way around the card or some scan and count pixels
4. Patience
A trick I learned I pre grade my card wait a week or so and regrade them. You would be suprised to see them go up or Down a point. Or catch a major flaw you didnt see last time. What I miss most is raised corners.

It sounds like you have been purchasing grading cards for a while to fill your Registry set with 33% 10s. If this is your first submission - welcome to the game. Check the population report for the cards you are collecting. If you review it - you might see many, many 9s and 8s graded for every 10 that you have in your set. Although PSA sometimes can be a bit inconsistent - most people making their first submission overestimate what grades they will receive...
