My mailman was very nice to me today! (AKA Marty doesn't get them all!)

I snuck through the door when Marty wasn't looking. $12 a set for the 1964's.

Also got five DCAM 1968-S's in, but haven't gotten them imaged yet.

You guys have posted a 1000 cool cameo Kennedies....they DO NOT seem to be scarce....why do they sell for so much?? In particular, we see multiple AH coins posted...again, why do they sell for so much when so many are around? Sorry to seem like the market bummer, but who is supporting the market?? Are there that many Kennedy collectors??image

For every one I post I've probably looked at over 200 sets with nothing in them.

  • You know what seems weird to me is the "E" in AMERICA on all of the coins looks almost exactly the same. (Lack of cameo frost)

Not weird at all. It's not a lack of frost, it's a shadow. The aperture on my camera is mounted on the left, so I always get some shadowing on the right because the camera body partially blocks the light. The coins were all shot at the same time, so the shadows appear in the same place on each. You'll notice the LL in Dollar is also shadowed out on each.

Not a problem. Unlike milk spots, glue spots are removable.

    nwcs,

Did you grab that one on eBay? And, how did I miss it?

No, I actually got the set at a local show for $5.50. Also has a dcam dime in it. ANother set I got for the same price has a cam/borderline dcam quarter, dcam nickel, and cam/borderline dcam jfk in it. Same date.

I have watched Russ's posts and Compucheap's auctions on eBay for a long time and can tell you the following. While you see his winners here you never see the losses. I have watched him sell tons of rolls of 1964 proof Lincolns, Jeffersons, Roosevelts, Washingtons and Kennedys on eBay. I have often wondered what the bottom line is, gains vs losses. Only Russ can answer but I am sure it. "aint all gravy".

    Edited to add Kennedys.

    GAT,

You're absolutely right, it ain't all gravy. Sometimes, no gravy at all! It's a lot of work and a lot of sets to find the good ones. Same thing with Marty. He busts his ass for his scores.

    GAT,

Russ collects halves... unless it's a really nice cent, nickel, dime, or quarter, he usually just breaks them from the sets (which have already lost the half dollars) and puts them aside until he has a full roll.

Jeremy, the point is Russ goes through a great many sets to find a few winners. In the past he has resold the sets where he finds nothing as rolls, not sets. That means the cent, nickle, dime, quarter and halfs as rolls.

My mailman has been an A-hole lately, and hasn't brought anything cool...... image
I guess those kennedys are sort of cool......
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • Lot's of competition in this area! Russ and Marty have to spend lots of time rooting out these acorns. And BTW, these acorns arent the only ones out there. Some of the other folks who are very successful in doing this sort of thing dont toot about it. image
